I loved this place! I fell in love with tanuki while walking around Japan and was keen to get one. I’m glad I went to Pottery Tanuki. I found a beautiful tanuki and was gifted another tiny tanuki by the owner. The area around the store is beautiful to explore and there are many gift shops. I would definitely recommend Pottery Tanuki - I will treasure my tanuki!

I spent 30 minutes waiting in the rain with sadness in my heart. I arrived at 4.10pm, plenty of time before closing at 5pm. But the gate was closed. I rang the intercom and the bell. I asked at the shop next door and they were unsure as to why it was closed. The lights were still on and everything was on display. Complete waste of my time.

Cute little shop near Ayashirama. They accept credit cards and give a tax discount if you're a tourist. Everything is hand made, priced between 1,000 and 4,000. The pottery selection is limited but there are various tanuki figures and other animals (Nekko, frogs, owls, etc.). It's worth the detour while you're in the area

Excellent shop to buy ceramics to bring home, especially the tanukis! I bought two medium sized ones and a wood board. One was 2700Y and another was 3500Y. Board was 850Y. They gave me discount but I’m not sure why lol but all pieces are high quality and they wrapped everything nicely. I paid with cash but I saw a card machine. A 10m walk north of the bamboo forest so it is quiet and away from a lot of tourists but definitely worth visiting, at least for a photo with...

All handmade items with lots of love and care. The shop owner was very kind and even gifted us two umbrellas on a rainy day in Kyoto. His items were lovely and we enjoyed our visit in his shop. He double checked everything we wanted to buy and put one mug aside as there was a tiny bubble on the glaze, so he got us another one. Big...
