We were in the mood for ramen and found this eatery just two blocks from our hotel! We were greeted at the door, then gestured toward the order-taking machine (which has English labels for menu items). Once we paid, we were invited to get glasses of water and refreshing towelettes, then to sit in the dining area. Our ramen was out within minutes. We had the option of ordering regular or large portions and chose regular. Big mistake! Both of us would have happily eaten the larger-sized portion. We actually considered placing an order for seconds, it was that good: fresh noodles, flavorful broth, bean sprouts, and scallions. I recommend adding egg, like my son did. I had the vegetarian miso ramen; he had the soy sauce ramen. Containers with chile oil, chile paste, soy sauce, and white pepper were on each table so we could season our soup should we desire. Definitely recommend this place, especially if you are visiting...
Read moreFound this place nearby our hotel, apparently it is popular ramen shop. Despite that, we queued for about 15mins and being served directly.
There's chairs outside for those who's queueing, once the staff greeted you, you're being guided to the machine where you can select what you want to purchase, there's Japanese and English too. It also accept card payments.
After that, the staff will let you know your seat and will show you where to get water and wet towel which is a self-serve.
We ordered extra noodle for both ramen because quite a lot of people suggested it and it's actually too much for us. It's probably will be just right if you just order ramen by itself.
The soup is very delicious and noodle texture is just perfect. The pork melts in your mouth, the chasiu tasted so good too! The fried chicken is juicy and Gyoza has enough filling in it.
Overall, I recommend this place especially...
Read moreGood ramen but pretty touristy. Fukuchian is located near Nijo Castle so it’s already pretty touristy, but I didn’t see a single Japanese customer which would usually be a bad sign, plus a large spanish group being super loud and playing videos out loud. Maybe it’s that I’m used to more quieter ramen shops like the ones I have had in Tokyo, Hakone, Nagoya, but it prevents this place from being a 4 star. But the ramen was good, not the best Tonkotsu but still tasty, around the same league as Ichiran, if not a little better due to the more varied menu and being a smaller shop/chain. Classic Tonkotsu broth and thin straight noodles, a tender piece of chashu and loads of veggies. Overall while I think there is better Tonkotsu this is still a good ramen spot, but packed with...
