Stumbled upon this gem while wandering the alleyways of Kyoto. The staff didn't speak a lot of English, but with google translate and their enormous hospitality and friendliness we figured it out. Ordering is through a simple terminal, which unfortunately doesn't accept the new yen bills just yet. However, they do accept most European credit cards so paying was no problem at all. Keep in mind that you are asked to order one dessert or drink with your meal. Given the amazing flavours of their meals, see this as a treat rather than as a penalty! For lunch we had a noodle set with lime, lime suji sorbet, rice and minced chicken as a main dish. The cold noodles were extremely welcome on a hot summer day. The lime flavours paired nicely with the saltiness of what I believe was a dashi stock. The rice and chicken were nicely paired with the noodles which arguably was the main star. For dessert we had a little simple flavour gelato mix. This comes with two teas, one to be drunk before and one after. The three gelato flavours are not what you normally expect from gelato but they definitely know what they're doing!! My favourite was the rooibos gelato with the juice. Great way to cool down and energize yourself for the rest of the day. Finally, the atmosphere is an inviting modern look with a central kitchen and a small garden that attracts pollinators such as the old world swallowtail. If you're ever in the area, I would 100% recommend this cute...
Read moreOgawa is a MUST-DO in Kyoto. Hands down one of the best dining experiences here. We enjoyed a beautiful brunch service. We reserved ahead for the table in the back. It's a lovely, tranquil atmosphere, and the service is top tier.
They accommodated my dairy allergy perfectly and professionally. Each course was paired with their own tea brand. They also have their own noodles, napkins, bowls, and herbs. All of those are also available at their street-level shop.
We couldn't believe how many new flavors we experienced, even as professional food folks. And the execution was impeccable.
We would definitely go again, and also, as we were shopping downstairs after, we saw they do an ice cream tasting flight in the tea shop! Gotta try that too.
Finally, while I didn't worry about the price ahead, I was utterly amazed by how inexpensive this was! Insane. This is a two or three-star Michelin experience for the price of a few pizzas. They're magic at...
Read moreThis place was really wonderful. All the food is organic, it is a course meal and has multiple teas that people can drink and choose from. We even got some extra goodies like tea, organic citrus sauce, and even a Japanese napkin as a present and gift. There are staff that can speak English present, and all the menus are available also in English as well. I do tours all over Japan, especially for VIP personnel, and this was one of the best experiences I’ve had so far. Furthermore, the first floor is a café that also serves great beverages, and Sell a selection of teas. Not everything is organic, but they are all of incredibly high-quality. I have not had a chance to check the hotel upstairs, which is only Available for one reservation as there is only one room, but I have heard good things about it. I am looking forward to taking people more often to this location, very very highly recommended. Thank you so much to the...
