Nicely tucked away in the streets of Hanakimoji Dori, the outside decor is very cute, wooden and appeasing to the surrounding area. Once we stepped inside, we were greeted and told to go upstairs to find seating. We sat down, and were given two Japanese menus. Unfortunately, our seats were in the corner, where the waitress could not see us, so I made an effort to stand up, quietly, and walk over to the counter to ask if it was okay to have an English menu. I think it was very bad timing that this waitress was attending us, as she immediately gave me a glare whilst handing me the English menu. Ignoring this, I went to sit down with my Fiance. We decided on our choices (shown in the photos) and again, I wanted to get the waitress' attention without bothering other people so I stood up to walk over to make our order. She immediately told me to sit down, so I went back to my seat, and she asked for our order. It is unfortunate that during this process, her attitude was so poor, and we tried our utmost to tell her our choices in English. She gave little responses so we were unsure, and she made us feel we did something wrong. We basically repeated ourselves several times. The food was of great quality, but I don't think the service did it any good with the overall experience. Very disappointed... a...
Read moreThe ice cream was good. The service can be better. We were a group of 4, and 2 of us got there earlier. There was one group waiting to be seated before us, and soon there was another group waiting after us. We were told that we cannot be seated until all 4 of us are there, which I felt was reasonable then because the seats were fully occupied and there were others waiting. After a while, all other groups were seated and we saw a lot of people leaving. It was late afternoon and there were no more people coming in - but we were left waiting on the 1st floor (the cafe is on the 2nd). We were pretty sure there were many seats available based on the number of people who left, but we were not seated until our friends arrived. When we were finally taken to the 2nd floor, the cafe was almost empty. We wondered why they did not let us sit first. Sure, the ice cream was good, but we were exhausted after all the standing and waiting (worst part is there are no chairs in the waiting area), and the service was not flexible (not letting us sit even when there were so many empty seats, having to order one item each). We felt that the experience was...
Read moreNestled in the charming backstreets of Gion, this cafe is a true hidden gem with a wonderfully serene atmosphere. The staff are incredibly welcoming and have the most amazing smiles, making the experience even more delightful. Even if you don't speak Japanese, they have English-speaking staff and English menus to make ordering a breeze.
Their desserts, made with healthy ingredients and just the right amount of sweetness, are absolutely divine and highly recommended! If you're ever in Kyoto, this cafe is an...
