I had an absolutely amazing experience at [Aiwafuku], easily one of the best kimono rental shops in Kyoto!
The moment I walked in, I was greeted with warm smiles and exceptional hospitality. The staff, with their in - depth knowledge, guided me through an extensive collection of kimonos, each more beautiful than the last. Whether it was the vivid colors of the summer yukatas or the intricate designs of traditional kimonos, the quality was top - notch.
They also provided outstanding styling services. The way they expertly dressed me, complete with the perfect obi and accessories, made me feel like a true local. The attention to detail was remarkable, down to the placement of every hairpin.
What's more, the rental process was seamless and fairly priced. They offered flexible rental times and clear instructions on returning the kimono.
Overall, I couldn't recommend [Aiwafuku] more highly. It's not just a rental shop; it's a place that allows you to immerse yourself in Japanese culture in the most elegant way. If you're in Kyoto and looking for a kimono rental, this is the...
Read moreThank you, Aiwafuku, for giving us a truly special day! Despite us only making the reservation the evening before, we were welcomed by a professional but comfy team of kimono experts, who between them had more than enough English knowledge to guide us. While the number of kimonos to choose from was not enormous, the quality and colors were beautiful, and we both quickly fell in love with our picks, having chosen the couple's package.
We were slightly worried we would feel like silly tourists walking around in rented kimonos, but in fact, it was awesome. The fit was natural, comfortable and elegant, and we were even able to walk around all day in the traditional shoes (admittedly not actual wooden ones, mind). Absolutely something to try!
Maybe worth mentioning for women with shorter hair: Although they will still help you do your hair, there's only so much that can be done. Some tidying-up and a cute hairclip is, as stands to reason, about the extent of what they can offer unless you have longer hair - but in the end, it fit very well with the kimono, so no...

I had such a lovely time at this kimono rental shop! The staff were incredibly friendly and polite — they made the whole process smooth, enjoyable, and stress-free. They were very accommodating and genuinely wanted me to have a great experience.
The location is fantastic, just a short walk from a beautiful temple and a peaceful park — perfect for photos and a relaxing stroll in kimono.
They offer a nice selection of kimono and yukata in many styles. While the plus-size options aren't very extensive, they do(!) have them, and we were still able to find something that suited us well.
The pricing is very reasonable, especially considering what's included: kimono selection, accessories like the obi belt and hair ornaments, a cute handbag (big enough for your phone and passport!), and even a hairstyle. You can also leave your belongings safely at the shop until you return.
Overall, it was a truly delightful experience — I felt like the most beautiful girl in the...
