Stepping into Kasagiya is like stepping into a different era—one infused with warmth, tradition, and quiet elegance. I arrived a bit late in the afternoon and was gently reminded that they close at 17:30, something I already knew—but I was still thrilled to have made it in time. To my absolute delight, I had the entire place to myself.
The atmosphere was serene, with a calm, nostalgic charm that wrapped around me like a warm blanket. I indulged in a beautifully delicate dessert paired with delicious tea, brewed and served in a classic copper teapot that somehow made it taste even better. Every detail was intentional, steeped in heritage.
What made the experience even more special was the short but meaningful exchange I had with the kind man serving me—who turned out to be the fourth-generation owner of this incredible family-run establishment. There’s something truly profound about being welcomed into a place where tradition has been carried on with such care and passion over the decades.
Note: It’s cash only! So come prepared—and come ready to slow down, savor, and feel the quiet beauty of this remarkable Kyoto treasure.

Read moreWe received a recommendation from a local to come here for traditional Japanese sweets and we are so glad we went! This establishment truly sticks out in comparison to the hyper touristy and gimmicky places in the area. As someone who is not accustomed to eating azuki beans for dessert, and didnt enjoy them in the past, this was the first time that I realized just how good they are when made fresh and with care! The matcha shave ice was also delicious and perfect for the hot weather and for those who have a sweet tooth!

We loved the cozy atmosphere, friendly staff, and AMAZING food. We all agreed that if we lived in Japan we would be eating here everyday. This is a must-go to cafe for adventurous travelers who love hidden gems and...
