I'll start by saying the food was very tasty. I was recommended by Itsukichaya to go to this location because they sold a more meat base menu and I don't like seafood very much. Though if you do not like seafood I would not recommend because there is seafood in many of the dishes, and although I asked for less/no seafood that didn't help. You can also see the menu when booking a reservation so I knew exactly what I was signing up for. But again, the food was wonderful! The Golden egg bowl was AMAZING, I wish I had been a bigger portion. Also I'm still wondering what was in that bowl next to the kelp stock, it was very flavorful and delicious! So the food was definitely not the reason for my low rating.
I understand that the store closes at 930pm, and that last call is at 8pm. There is also a 70min seating time for reservations.
So I don't understand is why they would accept reservations for 8pm, and then rush you to eat and leave. I arrived at 8:05, because I got lost, not knowing that the restaurant is located at the end of an unmarked hallway. I sat down and received my meal shortly after (awesome!) my issue if with the man who was "serving" me. He would leave (that's fine, I was the only person there and didn't need help) and would come back into the room every 5 minutes and looked at me as if he was shocked that I wasn't done eating? I felt so uncomfortable and confused, I rushed to eat my food. I paid and left by 8:35, and I have proof from my camera roll.
I paid 5050yen for my meal, 900 yen for my drink, and at least 70 mins and enjoy my meal. The store would not be closed for another hour and 25 mins after I arrived, so I do not understand why I was being rushed? You'd think for the amount you pay for a meal you'd be able to enjoy the pretty atmosphere of the restaurant and the good food? If they wanted to close early during slow days maybe they should accept their last reservation at 7pm then.
What's even worse to me is that I was the ONLY guest there! There weren't even people there before I arrived! It would have only taken 10 mins to wash my dishes and wipe down my table if they wanted to leave early, it could have been achieved without having to rushing me to leave.
That alone ruined the whole experience for me and left me with a very poor taste. Regardless of the food I would NOT visit again nor would I recommend this place to anyone visiting Kyoto. There are plenty of nice other restaurants that can be visited, and will allow you to enjoy the expensive meal you've paid for...

Read moreDisappointing. We planned a dinner at this restaurant due to the high reviews. They encourage you to give a review at the end of your meal in exchange for a gift, which explains the unrealistically high reviews.
The food was just, okay. Part of the meal included making hand rolls of sushi, and there were 6-8 pieces of fish. The meal came with only one piece of seaweed. We asked the server for more and were told that each customer only gets one. This seemed a bit ridiculous to us.
The person next to us asked for a second glass of wine, which was also refused, only one drink per person.
Throughout the meal the server just stands at the counter and stares at you while you eat. The room was awkwardly quiet because I think the other guests, like my partner and I felt uncomfortable with this arrangement.
We looked forward to this dinner with high hopes, and were pretty disappointed. There were much better restaurants we visited in Kyoto with better food, environment, and lower cost. Give...
