Our visit to Jikko in Kyoto’s Pontocho Alley was nothing short of extraordinary. We arrived at the very end of their business day, yet the hospitality we received was beyond expectations. Instead of feeling rushed, we were welcomed with warmth and genuine attentiveness. The team took their time to answer all our questions, sharing deep knowledge about the quality, materials, and variety of traditional Japanese knives they offered.
The store itself is a work of art, with a beautifully curated display that allows you to truly appreciate the craftsmanship behind each knife. Every piece is showcased in a way that highlights its uniqueness, making the shopping experience both educational and visually stunning.
What made our visit even more special was the kindness they showed toward our 10-month-old baby. Not only did they help keep him entertained with sweetness and kindness, but they also made sure we never felt pressured to make a hasty decision. Their thoughtful approach allowed us to carefully select the perfect knife while feeling completely at ease.
From their exceptional service to the impeccable product selection, Jikko was by far the best choice for purchasing a high-quality, traditional Japanese knife. A heartfelt thank you to the wonderful team for making our experience so memorable! If you’re looking for an authentic and top-tier knife shop in Kyoto, this is the...
Read moreDON'T HESITATE to visit this beautiful store. Initially intimidated by the minimalist modern showroom through the window, we were lured in by the friendly waves of the staff to our children peeking through. We were welcomed warmly, and one of the staff members gifted my children some origami ninja stars and played with them while my husband and I browsed and asked questions. The staff were knowledgeable, and at no time did we feel a burden to them. We purchased a single knife; we had intended to purchase a Japanese knife while on holiday to add to the one we already own, so stumbling across this location was a blessing. After some reflection and lunch, my husband returned to purchase another and a third as a gift to our friend. I have since used both knives for many dishes, including Japanese dishes like Tonkatsu, Yamitsuki Kyabetsu, and Gyoza, and I am incredibly satisfied and impressed. We will be returning to this store to purchase more on...
Read moreI came here on behalf of my husband since I was able to travel to Japan while he had to stay home in NY. A little background, my husband is a chef so he loves to look at knives and buy them.
He gave me the name of this knife store in Sakai city but I was able to locate a store at Kyoto, near the hotel I am staying at (which is great!). When I entered, the ladies working at the store were kind, patient and super helpful since I had to facetime my husband so he can ask questions instead of us texting. I was able to show him some knives that they had and with a bit of context, the ladies were able to tell he was the one choosing. Their patience really shined as they took out knife after knife to showcase and eventually we made a purchase!
I have nothing but positive thoughts on this interaction. I really appreciated the 3 ladies who helped....
