We visited Sushi Ookini in Kyoto for the Chef’s Recommended Course, on the recommendation of Patrick Harnett from Japan Custom Tours, who speaks very highly of the restaurant and its chef, Tsutomu Murata. Although it’s located outside Kyoto’s main tourist area, Sushi Ookini is well worth seeking out. Cannot recommend this restaurant enough! We had an incredible experience here. Tsutomu is unbelievably kind, so welcoming, friendly, and very talented. You can tell he is passionate about what he does and really cares to get to know every customer who walks in. The food was excellent, and the sake was one-of-a-kind.
