One of the most beautiful cafes in Kyoto! A gem, hidden in an unassuming alley near Heian Jingu! It looks like the place is owned and run by husband and wife who tend to the kitchen and serve guests at the same time, so there might be a little wait but we didn't mind. The owner is a kind, gentle and generous person who puts a lot of thought and effort into every plate. We ordered matcha, a nama chocolate tasting set and cake. Each plate was lavishly decorated with real flowers and the cake came with lots of extras, such as different fruits, whipped cream and fruit sauces. We didn’t expect a slice of cake to turn into a full meal but it was delicious so we ate everything. The owner also gave us some pieces of chocolate for free so we could eat it with the cake and enjoy different flavours together.
The atmosphere is so beautiful and relaxing! The furniture and plates don't match, which is charming, as it made me feel like visiting my grandma. The small garden is beautiful and you can relax while eating delicious desserts.
Without a doubt, the raw chocolate is the specialty of the café and if you're looking for a unique, handmade souvenir, I strongly recommend buying a box or two. The cakes are also delicious, especially the chocolate cake, which is rich and moist. The food is made with love and the owner is smiling, at the same time prices are very reasonable, and everything is handmade. I will definitely come back!!! Thank you for your hospitality...
Read moreThis place was honestly magical. For a very friendly price we got not just the ordered sweets and drinks, but also an 'appetizer' plate with 'appetizer' tea. These together were enough for us. Even the double price would be worth it.
If you come here, do not expect a fast service and a fast eating, because this is an experience. Its like a ceremony with sweets instead of tea. The founders are also preparing and bringing the orders, you can feel in them all the big love they are giving into the place and the sweets. In reading the book there you can find out, that the founders are a husband and wife, the husband being a master chef and the wife also an artist. The kind lady explained everything about the ingredients and even the city, we pleasantly talked quite a lot. If you are in hurry, maybe you can be upset by this, so don't be in a hurry :) Every minute we spent there was worth it, and I can honestly say that this place was a magical and unique experience for all the four of us.
Give at least an hour to this experience after eating, it is well worth it! (At the leaving, we also got a little surprise ice cream for the walk home.)
(There is a very good local sushi place at the same corner, which we tried, if you want some lunch/dinner before...
Read moreThis is hands down the best nama chocolate in all of Kyoto.
This establishment is owned by a Canadian and Japanese couple. So if you speak Japanese, or English, you will have no problems.
Kyoto Nama Chocolat is the place to come.
I've had many 'Royce' Nama chocolates and I tell you, this is many times better than Royce. Everything is prepared with love and dedication. The owners are absolutely wonderful and welcoming, please if you visit strike up a conversation with them, they have so many wonderful stories and knowledge to share, it's truly an experience.
This truly is a place I will keep going back to again and again and again.
Inside looking out at the garden, it looks like a picturesque scene in a painting. Absolutely breathtaking.
Thank you for being so welcoming and for your...
