Nittodo Kyoto Cafe — Restaurant in Kyoto

We popped in here after a jaunt to Kiyomizu-dera in the morning and after stopping by the Starbucks around the corner. I was attracted by their hand drip coffees but when I got to order, they had just sold out. Seeing that they had cold brew in big siphon globes and ice cold water slow dripping into it, I decided to chance their cold brew instead.

Oh. My. Word.

This was a cold brew that changed flavour as you drank it. No hint of bitterness, with a flavour of rum and a sweetness of raisin. It woke me up better than anything a Starbucks drink could do and it was incredibly refreshing after the morning trek uphill. We also got the coffee milk but that tasted bland compared to the cold brew.

There was also a bit of an exhibition going on and they had stuff in store to sell. There is an upstairs seating area for paying customers but with limited seats.

Highly recommend the au lait glace. It's coffee layered over sweetened milk. Something I've not seen or had anywhere else before. I had this a few years ago and was glad to see the place was still in business and coffee just as good as I remember. They even give you an instruction sheet on how to drink it correctly. A must-try if you're in the area!! Service is great too. Not too crowded despite being in a busy area, did not have to queue...

The 2nd floor is super cozy, with relaxing zen music!!! You can go there if you order something to drink inside. It’s recommended as there is a great view of the temple from the window.
