Our family had lunch at Ogura Chaya and we absolutely loved it!! 👍🏻 The food was fantastic, ambience was excellent and the service is absolutely 💯 over the top!! We had the cold Chikara Udon on a hot Kyoto day, and it was so refreshing!! All of us were wearing kimono, incl our kids.
When we were about to finish our meal, the owner lent 2 shogun hats and 2 samurai swords to our kids. They had fun dressing up warriors and to their surprise, the swords were gifts from the owner!!! Wow!!
After our meal, we asked the owner to call for 2 taxis for us because my parents were tired from walking all day. When we reached our destination, we wanted to pay our fare. Lo and behold, the taxi drivers said our fares have been paid by the owner!!! OMG!! We were so shocked and wanted to say thank you to him but couldn't coz we don't have a local sim card. So, here is our very enormous thank you for your kind hospitality and wonderful service!! どうもありがとう 😊 You are a champion 🏆 in every way!! We will definitely visit you again in...
Read moreWe stopped here for lunch while we were out exploring the area, bamboo forest, and some of the different shrines
This was almost literally the only place in that area to eat so there was a bit of a line had to wait about 10 or 20 minutes
Soon after we were sat, the waitress came and was able to take our order
We ended up with the noodles and tempura bits and a beer
I thought some of the other places that we had the same food was much better tasting. This one was a little bit bland to be honest, however, the atmosphere made up for the food.
We did order a Sakura cream shake and they brought the wrong beer out and they bought a green cream. Shake went back and they had to remake both.
I normally don’t do three stars. I don’t think it’s fair, but in this case, the food was just like I said not very good compared to what we had in the rest of Kyoto You’re hungry and you’re in the area. It’s a beautiful little spot to have a lunch break and we little bit anyways so kind of...
Read moreCame by this hidden gem after the bamboo forest— and I am so glad we found this place. Was truly the best meal/ dining experience my family and I had our entire Japan trip. We waited for about an hour, we were the last in line and we did not mind at all (knowing we had to wait let us know it was going to be good). The store is run by a husband and wife duo, and we watched as they treated every customer and table with exceptional care. The husband is very funny and joked around with us a lot, and the wife even did updo hairstyles for the women in the store after their meal. Because we had to wait long they took extra care of us which we appreciated. The udon was the BEST udon I’ve ever had in my life. The broth was rich and deep in flavor, the most comforting meal we’ve had here. It’s been a week since we went here and I don’t usually write reviews but I wanted to highlight our experience and my family was...
