Tamagoya is a fantastic little stall fun by a friendly obasan. We wandered up a quiet street away from the tourists at the bamboo forest and found this place. The dishes were simple but the tamago gohan (raw egg on warm rice) was so delicious and nourishing (especially for a late breakfast). The oden had a few items but cooked really well. The daikon soaked up all the wonderful broth and was so good. I have no idea why, but the eggs in Japan, and especially at this stall, just hits different from anywhere else in the world. So, if you want to take a break from the crowds, this is a little hidden gem to come rest and have some really great Japanese dishes.

After walking around, we stumbled upon this small and beautiful place. It is run by two amazing people who make you feel welcome within moments of ordering. I know little Japanese, but I felt right at home and immersed in this magical little shop. If I ever make it back to Kyoto, this is the first place I will run...

always come here while taking tour participants. definitely hidden gem in arashiyama! grandpa & grandma really nice people. MUST TRY THEIR BANANA MILK SHAKE & TAMAGO GOHAN!! rice with raw japanese omega egg 🥚 really melts...
