Pound Steakhouse Tōn (ステーキハウス听 本店) in the heart of Kyoto is a highly regarded dining destination that offers a premium steak experience, particularly for those who appreciate the delicate flavors of Kobe beef. Located in the center of Kyoto, this restaurant has earned a reputation for its top-tier ingredients, elegant ambiance, and impeccable service.

The highlight of Pound Steakhouse Tōn is, without a doubt, its exceptional Kobe beef. Known for its marbling and tenderness, Kobe beef is a delicacy that many food enthusiasts seek out when visiting Japan. At Tōn, the chefs expertly prepare this prized meat, ensuring that every bite is melt-in-your-mouth perfection. Whether you opt for a traditional steak or a more creative dish, the quality of the meat is always the star of the show.

The restaurant itself has a warm, welcoming atmosphere. The interior is stylish yet understated, with wood accents and a comfortable layout that promotes both privacy and a social dining experience. The staff at Pound Steakhouse Tōn is another reason why the restaurant stands out. Friendly, professional, and attentive, they ensure that guests have a memorable dining experience. From assisting with menu choices to providing recommendations on wine pairings, the service here is top-notch and adds to the overall enjoyment of the meal.

One of the practical perks of dining at Pound Steakhouse Tōn is the availability of free Wi-Fi. In a bustling city like Kyoto, this is a helpful touch for both tourists and locals who may want to check emails or post about their delicious meals on social media. The Wi-Fi allows diners to stay connected while indulging in a leisurely meal without interruption.

While the prices at Pound Steakhouse Tōn are on the higher side, it is undeniably worth every yen. Kobe beef is an expensive treat, and the restaurant's focus on using only the finest cuts of meat ensures that diners get their money's worth. The quality of the food, combined with the excellent service and the refined atmosphere, makes for a dining experience that justifies the cost. For those with a passion for fine steak or anyone seeking a special meal in Kyoto, Pound Steakhouse Tōn is an experience not to be missed.

The menu is diverse, catering to a range of tastes and preferences. Whether you're in the mood for a simple steak or a multi-course meal, the options are sure to please. Many guests opt for the set menus, which offer a complete dining experience that includes appetizers, sides, and desserts, all expertly paired with the main event: the steak. The attention to detail is evident not only in the preparation of the meat but also in the accompanying dishes, which are crafted to complement the flavors of the beef.

In conclusion, Pound Steakhouse Tōn offers an exceptional dining experience in Kyoto for those who appreciate high-quality steak and excellent service. The combination of Kobe beef, free Wi-Fi, friendly staff, and a welcoming atmosphere makes it a top choice for anyone visiting the area. While it may be on the pricier side, the quality and overall experience are certainly worth the investment. This is a tourist trap. If you don’t see any locals, it’s a bad sign and there were nothing but tourists in there. It’s right outside a subway exit, it’s cash only.

We ordered drinks first upon being seated. My partner got whiskey, for an “upscale” place I expect the drinks to be nice as well. You do not ruin whiskey by putting three small ice cubes in it. Whiskey is meant to have one large one so it doesn’t melt quickly and dilute the whiskey. They also didn’t ask if he wanted it on the rocks or not. I got beer on tap, that was actually good and refreshing.

I started off ordering pickled vegetables, a simple Japanese staple for many meals. It tasted like they had soaked the vegetables in nothing but just vinegar the night before. They were not pickled, more so vinegar marinated.

There were many options for different price ranges of steak you could get. My partner wanted to try the Dry Age Beef, the Kobe was even more expensive. The regular dry age beef, the cheapest Rib cut we got was 32,000 yen. Red flags were going off everywhere in my head but we tried it. We asked for rare, that cut is hard to do rare, some were rare and some were more medium. For 32,000 yen I expect a chef to be able to figure out how to do that properly.

The steak had lots of flavor but I don’t think it was worth 32,000 yen. They offer sauces for the steak…for tourists but you’re really supposed to enjoy dry aged steak with no sauce to enjoy its flavor. I have been to Japan three times now and traveled many places in the country, even within Kyoto or even going down to Osaka, you can find Dry Age Steak for much cheaper…much much cheaper and it is just as good if not better.

Later that night, my partner was throwing up. We don’t know if it was the steak since I didn’t though my stomach did hurt after. But something to note.

Don’t come here if you want authentic Japanese experience. If you want to be a tourist and eat some overly expensive steak…more expensive than some really good steak you can already get in the states, walk on in. You probably don’t need a...

My experience at Pound Kyoto was nothing short of exceptional! From the moment we walked in, the warm and inviting atmosphere set the tone for an unforgettable meal. The staff were incredibly attentive, offering thoughtful recommendations and ensuring every detail was perfect. The star of the show, of course, was the steak. Cooked to absolute perfection, the Wagyu was melt-in-your-mouth tender, bursting with rich, savory flavors that showcased the quality of the ingredients. The accompanying sides and sauces were expertly crafted, complementing the main dish without overpowering it. I also appreciated the selection of local and international wines, which paired beautifully with the meal. The ambiance struck a perfect balance between elegant and cozy, making it ideal for both special occasions and intimate dinners. The attention to detail in the presentation and service truly elevated the experience. If you’re in Kyoto and craving an outstanding steak, Pound Kyoto is a must-visit. I can’t...

A great steakhouse to visit right in Kyoto. Made reservations through Google and was very easy to get in. Every meat is housed in a fridge on display at the front of the restaurant as well as a board with the select steaks of the day that you can order from. Everything was cooked perfectly by the chef on a charcoal grill. We ordered two brisket, two short ribs, a culotte, and the black Kobe beef sirloin of the day to split among 6 people. All we're cooked to medium rare with a great sear. Sides are individual portions so order per person. We also got the curry bruschetta that came with 3 servings, was really good. Definitely try this place out if you are in the area and in the mood for great cooked steaks.
