I was staying at a local hotel and spotted Takanoya while walking around. I haven't seen a craft brewery bar during my Japan trip yet, so I excitedly stopped by.
I arrived at the restaurant a few minutes after it had opened at 4pm. The place wasn't busy at all and was advised to grab a spot down the bar.
I loved the vibes of the place. I thought the the open kitchen look of the bar was cool, and I liked the colorful plates and patterned tiles. The bartenders were very friendly and welcoming to tourists (i.e. me). I had a great conversation with one of the bartenders about Kyoto and what to do.
I tried 2 local Hazy IPAs, which were my first samples of Japanese IPAs. They were lighter on the hops and very refreshing.
I also had the pleasure of snacking on a couple of items off their menu. Their Japanese omelette was amazing. It was fluffy and savory from the flavor of the dashi broth. I also had 6 pieces of sashimi with 1 type of fish: mackerel. 6 pieces is the minimum you can get, but you could essentially choose up to 3 types of sashimi if you like. The price goes up the more types you choose. The mackerel was the freshest I've had, and I loved that it came garnished with sliced shallots and micro herbs.

NB: from the mother This is a lovely little bar. We have one fussy eater and one adventurer. Our kids are use to being taken out to adult places. It is a quiet small bar. With all those qualifiers - the beer is from a local brewery and is delicious. The Gin is from a local gin distillery and is delicious and the drinks menu is high standard. The food is traditional and amazing and prepared fresh in front of you. We highly recommend this place with/without kids (who are use to the finer...
Read moreRelaxing and casual medium sized bar & restaurant with a solid tap list of American beers and a few local Japanese beers. A good looking Japanese whiskey shelf as well. Didn't try the food but has a small but full kitchen set until. Easily accessible from the Marutamachi subway stop.
Seats about 15-20 around the first floor bar, which to me is a good size by Japanese standards. Very new and modern set up. Definitely recommend a stop here for anyone looking to have a good beer from the states.
