Kami means god in Japanese, and the ramen is definitely god-like, no joke.
First off, the owner speaks good English so if you need any explanation and direction the welcoming lady will guide the way.
For the ramen, there is a variety of tsukemen (dipping) style, mazesoba (dry, mixing) style or the usual soup broth style. All 3 are highly recommended. The mazesoba came with generous cubes of meat and the way they serve it instead of the usual thin sliced char siew really makes you rethink life's usual routines. In their sauces there is also a healthy amount on onion that gives it a good, tangy kick too and that elevates the flavours even more.
For both the mazesoba and tsukemen there is a grainy texture to the sauces, probably from the seasoning but it does allow the sauces to cling to the noodles really well and adds another dimension to the experience.
Don't finish it all in one go, try it with the garlic, then the 7-flavour spice and the pepper as well and choose your own favourite to...

Okay this ramen shop is definitely not close to anything and would be considered out of the way, but honestly totally worth it.
So fair warning, they don't speak a lick of English. There is always a queue and you basically sit closest to the door upon entering and if there is no seat you wait outside. Closer to the beginning of the line, there is the vending machine for ordering- so if you are sitting inside- go make your order!
Granted I couldn't read any Japanese therefore I just picked the one that had big arrows toward and also a star that looked like they wanted to recommend it! I usually order extra noodles but the portion was perfect!
The ramen was perfectly cooked and those small squares of fat was scrumptious!! It wasn't too oily and didn't make me think that it was gross! If anything I wanted more of those powerful flavor profiles!! Yum!! Love love love!
It's a completely different tastes than the average and definitely...
Read moreHighly recommend this place, have tried 5 things on the menu, the ramen, tsukemen and dry ramen, pork fat rice bowl, and the fried chicken.
The dried ramen is delicious and unique, with rich flavour from the pork at and the tasty gyofun, mixed with onions and chunks of pork.
In the ramen you can chose between different types of pork, and tho k or thin noodles. Both are delicious but the thick ones have a unique handmade mouthfeel that can’t be beat, my fiancé prefers the thin ones though.
The fried chicken is AMAZING! I think it’s made with some kind of rice or tapioca starch so it has a crisp unlike other karage I’ve tried.
Tsukemen was also delicious.
Have been twice and will probably go again before I leave Kyoto! A true gem. Only thing I wouldn’t order again is the rice bowl, purely because I want more stomach space for everything else! Still but less exciting than other...
