Shima-Otto — Restaurant in Kyoto

After walking through quite a few temples in the Higashiyama area, we wanted a cafe a little bit away from the crowd. This place seemed isolated; part of a small hotel and accessible through small paths.

It's actually located in the lobby entrance of the hotel but there isn't any seating in the hotel. But there's a great little nook just outside which is peaceful and had benches do we were quite content (see the pictures).

It's a gelato shop and my wife and I had two scoops each. My wife got hazelnut sesame and chocolate chestnut. I got a waffle cone with matcha and pumpkin run and raisin.

The hazelnut sesame was excellent with a strong hazelnut taste upfront before the sesame base comes through but very well balanced. The chocolate chestnut was nice but after the hazelnut sesame, it didn't stand out.

The matcha was also excellent: a strong tea taste with a balance of sweet and bitter. The pumpkin rum and raisin was a bit lost after the matcha. In hindsight I think I should just have had a double scoop of matcha 🤣

Definitely coming back the next time...

What a hidden gem for the most delicious gelato in the Kyoto Higashiyama area. It is located in the hotel Yuraku and there’s only a small lantern sign for it. Though it doesn’t have dine-in facility, it has this terrace area with benches and greenery. So you can enjoy your gelato with some peace...

円山公園の近くにあるホテル内にあるジェラート屋さん、平日の14:40頃入店。 店内はホテル予約の方しか利用できないようなのでテイクアウトで。 外にイートスペースがあり、紅葉の木があったりと和を満喫できる素敵な空間です。

ジェラートは和風なものが多く 抹茶 桜 キャラメルナッツ竹炭ブラウニー 淡路島いちご 淡路島レモン 淡路島ミルク 京ゆずと島みかん 八ツ橋クッキー&クリーム の８つのフレーバーがありました。 そのほか日本酒アフォガード850円や季節のパフェジェラート900円、抹茶パフェジェラート900円等もあります。

淡路島いちごと抹茶とさくらで迷った末、抹茶とさくらのダブル600円に。 シングルは500円、トリプルは680円でした。 インスタフォローで10%オフになるのでインスタフォロー割してもらいました ・ダブル　540円 ※割引後の価格 抹茶はかの有名な祇園辻利さんのものを使用。 余韻に抹茶の沈みを感じられるタイプの濃厚な抹茶でかなり私好み。 甘さも甘すぎず適度の甘さで抹茶好きにはたまらない味わいでした！

さくらのほうは桜の花が入っており、塩漬けだとは思うんですが塩気はほぼ感じられませんでした。 こちらはかなりしっかりした甘さで、私には少し甘味が強く感じられました。

今からの時期テイクアウトにぴったりなジェラートで、特に抹茶が美味しかったのでまた食べたいなと思いました！ 空間も落ち着けて混雑していなければゆったりとくつろぎながら...
