Small restaurant with a few bar seats and a couple of tables towards the back. We were sat in the back which was not as nice as the bar area. The walls, floor, and furniture were quite ugly and not the cleanest looking. The owner made us write our order down which we never encountered before (and we've been to many different breakfast places). The bread which is apparently homemade was nothing to write home about. My cinnamon banana toast was very chewy and the blunt butter knife could not cut through it. The overall atmosphere because of the food and being in the grungey back area was not good. The only decent part for me was the latte. If you want excellent bread, go to Bread and Espresso in Kyoto or Arashiyama, or Hive in Kyoto. Rickshaw cafe in Arashiyama has some...

We (one foreigner and one Japanese) came here but were greeted by an unhappy face of the owner. Was it because I am a foreigner? After asking if we should rather leave in Japanese we were granted passage, but asked to write our order down on a piece of paper.

While we were there we saw four different foreigners enter the café but everybody was told "sorry, sold out, sold out!" before even able to articulate what they wanted. At the same time two Japanese customers entered the café without any questions asked.

If the food was sold out, why not welcome customers for coffee only? And then also why did we get served breakfast? Because we were Japanese enough?

The café looks stylish and toast was okay, but foreigners don't seem...

We were on our trip to Japan in June 2023. We reached Kyoto and realised that our hotel only offers ‘Boxed Breakfast’ which included both Veg and Non-veg. Being vegetarians we decided to go out of the hotel for breakfast. The Wanderers Stand was only 3 mins walk from our hotel. This is the best thing that happened to us.

We were in Kyoto for four days and every morning we went to have breakfast at The Wanderer because:-

The owner is very friendly and accommodating. He makes fresh bread everyday. Eggs were well cooked. Food was delicious. The service was fast and the place is very clean. I highly...

My husband and I loved Wanderers! It was about a 12 min walk from our hostel and such a perfect meal to start our day. Surprisingly a good amount of seating as I thought it would only be countertop seats. One man only: running the register, cooking and making coffees. He’s a wizard at what he does and despite juggling all the orders, he is lightening fast at popping out everyone’s food! We got the fried egg toast with cheese, regular French toast, and 2 iced oat lattes. ALL delicious! Major praise for this little side of the road shop. We hope to be back one day when we travel back to Kyoto from San Francisco. ❤️🙏🏽

A charming establishment offering breakfast and brunch options. The signature dish is homemade Kyoto toast, crafted with various egg and cheese combinations. After 11:00 AM, customers can select additional items such as hot dogs and chili-men. The coffee was of exceptional quality. The establishment features four seats at the main counter, providing a close view of the toasting process. Additionally, there are interior seating along the wall and a compact cubby for a table accommodating two persons. Highly recommended for a homey culinary experience.

Great coffee shop (delicious coffee late) with limited toast menu. We had eggs on toast and cinnamon banana toast. Both very good. Single operator performing all tasks (taking orders, making food and drinks and cleaning tables). He was a little grumpy. But hey, I would be too if people kept coming in and asking for things! You can also buy a loaf of the delicious bread (the guy was also doing the baking!). Cute little place (keep the door closed though-street is wiffy). Thoroughly recommend even just for the experience!
