I have been here two times in two years. The first time I found this place was from the good ratings on Google and I was not disappointed. The food and experience is one of THE BEST I’ve had in my life. First, I have to recommend what to order: any of the meats are excellent but I highly recommend paying the extra $ and buying the 3,000 yen sirloin. It’s much more expensive than the others yes, but it is well worth it. Aside from the meats, the soup is one of the finest I’ve had. I would never have ordered it but we got very chummy with some locals on my second trip and they ordered it for me (after 2 sakes, 2 sirloins, a loin & rib). It was DELICIOUS! On top of that, we had such a wonderful time talking with the hosts and locals that out of nowhere someone gave us a COFFEE dessert that was basically coffee JELLO & CREAM. On paper that sounds gross but I swear if they sold this in the USA it’d become an instant sensation. In addition to that a yogurt ice pop came our way as we walked out the door and it too was AMAZING. I’ve told about 3 friends who went to Kyoto in the 2 years since I first went about this place and because it was closed (Wednesday’s) or they couldn’t make it, they ended up missing out on such a wonderful experience. I never write reviews but due to the quality of this place I had to write one. That being said, show up around 8/8:30 or before (not later), be humble and respectful as this is a place that is mostly locals and non tourists. It would be a shame to give tourists a bad rep to a place that doesn’t need their business. Show respect and get respect and you will be rewarded with an experience...
Read moreThis review has nothing to do with the food but I would like to say the F work to this place. As a foodie, I totally understand that some Japanese restautants don't foreigners and I don't feel offended if they have some kind of only-Japanese policies and post them DIRECTLY.
I found this yakiniku place since it is near the guesthouse where I stayed. I asked the owner of the guesthouse to help me make a reservation (on Saturday) since I don't speak Japanese. The restaurant told him that they DON'T accept any reservation during the weekend and you have to come early or wait in line. Then during my visit to Kyoto, I went to this place at Saturday night. The place was full of people and a Japanese couple was waiting inside the restaurant. I told the waiter that we have three people and we would like to wait. The waiter did not answer me and called another waiter to handle my issue (maybe he wanted someone who can speak English to help). Then that guy told me that ALL TABLES ARE RESERVED tonight and we cannot accomodate you. You said you DON'T accept RESERVATION on the weekend and the Japanese couple was waiting!!!!
If you feel troublesome to dealing with foreigners, then say it directly. Don't make such a naive lie to...
Read moreCame here twice on a 3 day trip to Kyoto. The dishes are mainly choices of beef cuts and parts that you can grill by yourself. The meat is so tasty and tender! Other side dishes include rice, miso soup, potato salad, pickles, and a couple others. The food was simple but tasted natural and good. The staff are friendly, speak some English, and try to engage in conversation when appropriate. The place is usually pretty full but we haven't had any problems getting a seat. The ambience is good too, with grills at every table it is a warm feeling on a cold Autumn's night. For a dinner for 2 with an alcoholic beverage would set you back about 5-7,000 yen depending how much you eat. It costs about 800-1200 yen for 100g of a beef cut, for your information. I definitely wanted to eat more and stuff my face, but I felt very satisfied with my dinner. I'm writing this review because they deserve this review. I hope other foreigners who read this can also appreciate this place as...
