In Matsumoto a visit to Nawate (Frog Street) is a must. There are many quaint shops to visit, but when you are ready for a delightful eating experience…go to StoryHouse Cafe and Bar. The inside and outside are enchanting, but it is hard to see the inside from the outside, so make sure you go inside. The staff was super friendly. I ordered the pulled pork. This was the best pulled pork sandwich I ever had. The owner, Chris, came out to see how things were. I found out that the pork they use is all locally raised, and the bun was freshly baked by the owner. My latte was rich and so smooth. It went quite well with my meal. This place has an amazing community vibe. I will be staying in Matsumoto for a few months and can’t wait to attend more of there many events. Last but not least, the coffee was good--no surprise once I heard the owner lived in Seattle 😁. Finally, the staff was just lovely; their English was very good (my Japanese is worse than rudimentary), and they made us feel very welcome! ...

The couple who own this place are kind, warm and humble❤️ There are both Japanese and English speaking staff here. I ordered coffee and apple pie,,,,coffee was superb, and the 🥧.......speechless. The atmosphere is laid back. Plenty of space inside. My only advice is, be careful how you enter the narrow road that leads to this cafe because it's a road for people to walk along. No drivers allowed. However at one end of the road there is an entrance and parking lot. Highly recommended 👍👍👍...
