Nunoya was one of our favourite accommodations during our month-long trip to Japan. This ryokan is about as charming and old-world Japan as it gets. The decor is simple but elegant. The beds were probably the most comfortable we've slept on during our holiday. Nunoya is located right on the old shopping street where restaurants and souvenir shops abound. The couple who own the ryokan are very sweet, inviting, and went out of their way to try to find us a restaurant for dinner. We had breakfast there twice. The Japanese style breakfast was diverse and interesting, although not my favourite. The french toast was phenomenal - do yourself a favour and order it. They make a great latte too.

Read moreI stayed Nunoya second time with my old friends. Nunoya was always perfect with it's retro atmoshere and it's combinatioin with newly innovated shower and toilet room with wooden wall. We were 3 adult, but the room size was big enough, we therefore could spend wonderful time. This time, we went to Kamikochi which was only 1.5hour by car + bus, it was surprizing to find that such nature filled place was that close. (written 10th October 2024)
Nunoya met perfectly my expectation of Japanese ryokan by it's Kura constructure typical in Matsumoto built more than 100 years ago, it's location in the middle of Nakamachi ,then room interior just fit to it's environment. Breakfast was also very good, tasty, beautiful arrangement and good cost performance. I would like to come back again. (written...
Read moreOur favourite place in all our trips to Japan. This is a very special place. Staff were so kind and helpful. Warm, friendly, happy place. Michiyo was an absolute joy every day we were here. The room was breathtaking. Everything was exceptionally clean and the futons were very comfortable. Location is perfect, just a small step out the door and you are swept into the spirit of Matsumoto and Nawate street. Another unforgettable highlight was the breakfast. Not only an exceptional chef, but an artist. I have never seen such beautiful meals. (Must try the French toast!!) Exquisite beauty from the moment we stepped into Nunoya Ryokan. Like stepping into another world. We will miss the place and the staff and look forward to our next return. Thank you for an incredible...
