For those looking for a lunch to enjoy local cuisine in Matsumoto, I highly recommend "Yamaga Teishoku" at the restaurant inside the chestnut confectionery shop "Chikuhodo" on Nakamachi Street in Matsumoto.
The dishes served in the clean and comfortable restaurant with a view of the beautiful courtyard are exceptional.
"Yamaga Teishoku" consists of:
Kuri-okowa (steamed rice with chestnuts) made with carefully selected domestic ingredients and no artificial coloring, with a gentle flavor.
Nijimasu Amagaki-ni (sweet simmered rainbow trout), a dish where you can eat everything except the eyeballs, is a masterpiece that makes you feel the arrival of spring.
Sansai Nimono (simmered mountain vegetables) that reminds you of spring,
Mukago no Kurumi Miso-ae (stir-fried lily bulbs with walnuts and miso), and
Ringo Juice (apple juice) made from Nagano-grown apples.
It is a truly satisfying meal that allows you to enjoy the local cuisine of Nagano.
