Stand喜与 — Restaurant in Matsuyama

I arrived in Matsuyama at an awkward hour — too early for dinner, and most places didn’t open until around 5pm. So I decided to just take a walk and maybe find a cozy spot to grab a small bite and a beer.

I stumbled upon this place that looked like a café-bar hybrid and stepped in with no expectations. Inside, a few regulars were already chatting away, and I found myself a comfy table. The owner kindly handed me a menu with a QR code — it had English and Korean options, but I take pride in my Japanese, so I ordered in Japanese.

That kicked off a fun and lively conversation with the owner, who kept recommending drinks and chatting with me throughout. What I thought would be a quick stop turned into nearly three hours of great conversation and laughter.

The owner also gave me some solid local recommendations for places to check out. It was such a cheerful, welcoming little spot — an unexpected gem on my first day...

The owner was very welcoming and helpful, even though we were separated by a language barrier. He showed us some info on things to see around town since we were only in Matsuyama for the night. The food was delicious too, I had the minced meat cutlet and fried chicken, both were great. All the beers we had were perfect for a stormy night.

Matsuyama was such an enjoyable night with everyone being so kind to us, we really look forward to coming back...
