It was clear from the moment we walked in the door that foreigners are not welcome here. We were greeted by the owner with "Do you speak Japanese?" and when we replied by saying "A little," he begrudgingly ushered us in. When I clearly asked in Japanese what the fish of the day was or what type of sake he recommended, he acted as if he couldn't understand. Since there was no English and a lot of kanji on the menu, we used our phones to translate the items and order. He then proceeded to make fun of us "gaijin" in Japanese to his wait staff in front of us, openly laughing, assuming we couldn't understand.
The wait staff was genuinely warm and personable, but the chef/owner was rude from beginning to end and made us feel not only unwelcome but also like an imposition, despite our best efforts to be polite and kind.
While the food was tasty, I would discourage other foreigners from visiting here, even if you speak Japanese fluently. It's clear that the owner isn't happy for the patronage from people outside of Japan, as evidenced by his mockery of us "gaijin." Read more정말 너무 하신거 아닌가요....?!! 일본어 못한다고 너무 차별적인 대우를 받았습니다. 그래도 리뷰에 좋은 평도 있길래 여행마지막날이라 믿고 간건데요...!
우선 술3잔(맥주, 레몬츄하이, 하이볼) 시켰습니다. 그리고 일본어를 못해서 추천 메뉴 중에 아무거나 하나 주문 했습니다.
조개탕 양은 1인분 같았습니다(숟가락도 하나 주셨구요, 조개 알맹이 총 3개 들음). 불편해서 얼른 먹고 일어나자 싶어서 계산서 부탁드렸구요. 약 5만 8천원(5,800엔) 냈습니다.
이상하고 속상했지만, 여쭤보지도 못하고 그냥 나올 수 밖에 없었습니다. 리뷰에 외국인한테 추천 안한다는 분.. 깊은 공감합니다. 저희는 다시 올 일도 없지만, 다른 분들은 같은 대우 당하지 말길...
