This is a very famous shop and was on my way. I tried two types of chicken wings(in the photo, one box is labelled local), one is more expensive. The price ratio between the the two types are 5 to 3, a significant difference. The more expensive one are the wings of local chicken that were born in Nagoya region as I was told.
In terms of taste, I didn't find a large difference between the two and find them not particularly delicious. They did not taste bad though.
The expensive one is stronger in terms of texture like that of a free range chicken. The skin was definitely tougher to tear out. The teeth definitely worked harder when chewing the meat as well compared with the other. For me, I enjoyed the less expensive one more.
In terms of size, the sizes of the less expensive ones varies obviously (the photo shows) which I found odd. It seemed a QC issue.
In terms of price, the expensive one was pretty expensive for snacks like chicken wings. Remember, only two sections of chicken wings were offered without the upper "thighs"
Summary: they tasted OK but it was not worthwhile to detour in order...

They have all the classics, tebasaki (chicken wings), miso katsu (deep fried pork in breadcrumbs dipped in red miso), nikomi udon (udon noodles with egg, leek, chicken etc in red miso sauce) on the menu. Pretty quick and friendly service. Taste is like Standard izakaya Restaurant not amazing but hits the spot and goes well with a few beers. The miso ice cream for desert was pretty good!
I liked all the bits and bobs around the restaurant. There were antiques and things that looked as if they had been found in someone's attic all over the restaurant so it certainly wasn't formal and had a more informal feel and you could also see some Japanese culture too. Also seems like a good place if you want to eat at the counter with a tv right in your face ๐
Seems like a lot of Japanese celebritiesike the place too judging by all the photos and signature cards in the genkan. Thee Michele gun elephant and Dragon ash...
ย ย ย Read moreIt was one of the worst experiences i have ever had in Japan. (I love japan so much so I visit this country once every year or more) I know Nagoya is not so kind when it comes to hospitality and customer service(compared to the rest of japan ofcourse), but this one was the worst of all. The female staff at front was horrible from the beginning, and the male staff at the bar table was lazy to even say things.(almost whispering from the distance) and When I paid and was about to leave that shop, the girl at front who took my cash even ignored me and did not even say anything (like bye or thank you). I had this impression that they did not like non japanese or a cusomter on his own like myself. Overall, I do not recommend this place at all, especially if you are foreigners. Find other places..if you do not want to spoil your good...
