BOOKOFF SUPER BAZAAR Sakae-SKYLE Store — Local services in Nagoya

BookOff is always a great place to go for reasonably priced used books, music, videos, and games. The Super Bazaar throws in plastic model kits, designer clothing and designer accessories like shoes, bags, jewelry and watches.

There’s always something to see, but it may take some searching. Keep in mind that some of the items are placed by quality ~ so you may find a 240¥ manga in one place and think it’s a great deal, while the same manga (albeit a bit less fresh) might be on the 110¥ shelf, which is important if you’re buying in bulk. Best to come prepared to look around and if used books or garage sales (well: garage sales that deliver Vuitton, Coach, Chanel or Cartier goods) are your thing, then plan to spend some time.

I picked up some Hobby Japan magazines that were a fraction of their original prices, while they were still on the shelf in regular bookstores. Right beside them were some other magazines that were only cheaper by 3 or 4 dollars, so I passed on them.

My only complaint is that they’re beginning to set their prices a bit higher than they used to. You can still get deals (like the cheap magazines) but they’re not always the slam-dunk steals that they used to be, which is just a reflection of the times, I guess. Like everywhere else: consider what you’re getting and how much the regular price might be before you buy it and...

This place is pure magic. One of my kids said it was his favorite part of our whole trip to Japan. They have thousands of used anime books and figurines. So many. Shelves and shelves. You can buy used figurines in the box or opened ones in bags for a fraction of retail price.

Also, this one is a Super Bazaar. They have clothes, houseware, shoes, and more. They had the most beautiful kimonos. Kicking myself for not buying one. This is a thrift store that is incredible. We could have spent days there. They also have certified designer bags...

When I arrived at the store via the lift, a life-size Batman statue caught my eye.. make no mistake, this one's the Val Kilmer Batman Forever "bat-nip" version.. lol. Similar to other Book Off outlets, this one has a huge variety of items for you to browse through. I was looking for a particular item and approached one of the staff. He was friendly, helpful, and was able to converse in simple English. I'll definitely allocate more time to browse through this store if I get to visit...
