Shibafukuya — Restaurant in Nagoya

Eel restuarant located in the older part of downtown, located on a small side street. We walked to the restuarant from the nearest metro. Took about 10 to 15 mins. We made a reservation for a table a couple of weeks before. However we were given seating around the bar on ground floor, and not a table. Relatively small restuarant. I think they have upstairs seating. We ordered 2 eel sets. One white eel and one brown eel. Tried ordering the premium eel, but they were sold out. Very big portion. Extremely full after eating. Had a beer. Around JPY10k for the 2 of us. Spent around 1 hour here....

Perhaps the best Hitsumabushi I’ve eaten in the world, in its birthplace in Nagoya. The eel is grilled to perfection, soaking up the sweet and sticky sauce and a moderately crispy skin with a smokiness perfect with the broth and wasabi. v good unagi. can taste the char. skin is crisped and flesh is tender and u can barely even feel the soft bones

the glaze is nice

reservation is recommended. saw a long line of ppl queuing during peak lunch hour

even w an advanced booking, the wait for food after being seated was quite long - 30 min
