Was looking for Nagoya morning set and found this place in the reviews. Picturesque stroll from Nogoya Station, about 10 minutes, and easy enough to find. There are only limited spots, so you take a ticket at the door and the buzz you on your phone when a table is ready. Beautiful decorations inside with a very calming and sedate atmosphere. There are three levels within this cafe and there is also a bathroom. The coffee is dripfiltered, and there is a wide variety of different blends to choose from. The toast that comes out is as thick as a doorstep and is delicious. It cones with a boiled egg and some salad. It was a simple breakfast but very filling. The table we sat at was nicely decorated with coffee beans under a sturdy plate of glass. This cafe has running water pathway outside the main door, so it is very tranquil while waiting for your table to be called. Service was quick, and they were very polite. This cafe is also an easy 15-minute walk from Nagoya Castle. Well worth the visit if you...
Read moreFood - I had a latte and a coffee float. As a non coffee enthusiast, I can only say the latte was smooth and easy to drink, while the float came with flavourful vanilla ice cream with vanilla seed in. Latte won though, less bitter. They have full-on meal or toast on their menu, wish there are lighter snacks too, so I didn't order my food and unable to provide further comments on this front.
Service - very helpful and try their best to explain each item, both waiter and shop staff at the cashier.
Shop - Stumbled upon it by mistake, and also attracted by that "zen" staircase. A shop that supports fair-trade from third world countries, which is great, but not for a tourist looking for local souvenirs. Charteristic decor and great vibe, but rather hot inside,...
Read moreI stopped here last summer while walking through the Shikemichi area. The owner was very nice and patient even with my sub-par Japanese language skills and was even able to switch over to English for part of the conversation. He explained that this cafe was named New Poppy because his parents once owned a cafe called Poppy. The building is very interesting with an older-style, tiered upstairs with a more modern seating area and bar downstairs. The coffee was very good and it looked like the owner was roasting everything in house as there was a roaster behind the bar. I will stop by again next time I am in Nagoya. New Poppy strikes a perfect balance between a kissaten and a...
