I have eaten eel rice, or Unagi in Japanese, for so long and was surprised to find something new when I visited this ship in Nagoya. First, they don't call it Unagi but Hitsumabushi instead which means Eel rice in a wooden tub. And the eels are chopped into small pieces. Second they are special ways to eat it. You divide the Hitsumabushi into 4 portions and eat the first portion with seaweed. Next you have the second portion with seaweed, scallion and wasabi. Repeat the second step and add dasi soup or tea to it. Lastly, you can eat the last portion whatever way you like. After all, it is a pleasant experience. They even show you the resume if the chef who grills the eels.

We didn’t plan to have our lunch here but the other place we wanted to go was not available due to some unforeseen circumstances. What a surprise, the eel was cooked to perfection and was absolutely tasty. Price was reasonable. My wife had the soft eel where i had the grilled eel with a bit of the crisp on the skin. We probably preferred the grilled one better.

The eel rice is great. It looks luxurious and tastes really well. There are three ways of enjoying the rice with instructions listed on the English menu. There are rooms separating guests. However, if it’s a small group, then you may have to share the room with another small group. The staff is very nice and friendly.
