This is the first time I visiting Japan. As a country, in my mind, Japan is the flag of East Asia! For the past 5 days, I have a great experience with this country. Genial and friendly people, fresh air, green mountain and clear river water,......, and peaceful society! Janna makes me believe our East Asia people also can ran a freedom society perfectly! I have a strong feeling in my heart, I love this country! I stay in Mitsui Garden Hotel Nagoya Premier for 2 days. Because I thought with my credit card will be enough in Japan, so, I didn’t bring any Japanes yen with me. But just in case, I put in my wallet some US dollars. When I arrived in Japan, I found that without cash will be very hard in Japan especially when you want to enjoy the food from the small restaurants beside the wonderful narrow civilian streets. So, I need to do some currency exchange in my hotel for my daily use. After the first night, I exchanged $200. I wanted to make more but $200 is the daily limit of money exchange. Today morning 11:00am, we checked out and stepped in the hotel’s lift, then, my wife suddenly thought of the money exchange. Then, we went back to the front desk and talked to the front desk clerk, a beautiful lady with very kind smile. “Hi, excuse me, we need some money exchange.”my wife side. “Oh, aha, we don’t do money exchange. You can go to bank and ......”the lady talking to my wife and with kind smile on her face. “I exchanged some money yesterday and used out, so, we need Japanese yen for today.”I explained. “OK, come here.”the lady guided us to another desk. She checked her computer then said with a very sorry smile: “aha, You already checked out. We can’t do money exchange for you. This is the hotel’s policy.” “Really? But we just checked out five minutes ago!” I said with little bit of angry. “I want talk to your manager. Who is the manager?” “OK, OK, I can do the money exchange for you. How much you want to exchange?”the clerk lady said smilingly. “$200, please.”my wife handed her two 100 dollar when she was replied. “A——ha, only 100. This is policy.”Up to now, the clerk lady still show us like she was talking honestly, of course with very very kind smiling. “What?! I just exchanged $200 yesterday. If 100 is the policy, me and my wife are two person, we also can exchange $200!”I said. At that time, even not showing on my face, but the angry already full of my chest. If the lady continuously trying to find reason to refuse doing this service properly, I will find her manager to talk immediately! At the end, she exchanged the money for us. But, this story makes my wife and me very upset. This bad experience maybe will block my step of going this hotel again and also will let me to judge the Japanese smiling is only from face or...
Read moreI've stayed at the Mitsui Garden Hotel Nagoya Premier four times now and always enjoy the views, the location, the comfort, the amenities and the food. This time I booked a superior king room rather than a queen. It had a wide view across the city to the mountains. A staff member had advised that having a king room meant I would not really be able to see the castle, a love of mine, but I was given a room where I could still see it in the far distance which was great. ||The room was still fairly compact but well-designed, so the space overall was ok. I was able to fit my wheeled suitcase in as well as the big backpack, without their impeding movement. The bed was comfortable, as was the lounge with its pretty cushion. The lounge along with its small table had to double as a desk though, which wasn't ideal. There were PJs and slippers for use within the hotel. ||These rooms have very nice lit cabinets for the attractive crockery, glassware and ice bucket. Metal cutlery in a drawer below. And it's always a bonus to have a capsule coffee machine! Also there was an electric jug, with teabags and coffee capsules provided. The fridge and tv were both a good size. There was adequate clothes hanging space but no drawers for clothes. The room also contained a small safe and a humidifier. I found the WiFi could be slow. ||The bathroom was good with lots of bench space and a deep, long bath. Quality complimentary facial products was another bonus.||The staff were helpful and nice. The hotel lobby always looks great. There's extensive shelving displaying flowers, objets d'art and books; cool decor including an impressive ceiling artwork; and a panoramic view. The large floral installations on that floor were superb, and downstairs by the lift there were more flowers beside green shachihoko. Breakfasts feature local specialities and are very good. I much enjoyed the eel dish.||The hotel is in an excellent location, less than 10 minutes walk to the JR and Meitetsu Stations, close to the Midland Shopping Centre and heaps of other shops as well as many eateries. It's about a 30 minute walk to Nagoya Castle or the Sakae District. Less to various museums and parks, or it's easy to take a train.||And thank you very much for the lovely special gift of a Nagoya castle paper clip for staying more than a certain...
Read moreMy first visit to Nagoya in central eastern Japan, and a first stay at the Mitsui Garden in the downtown area, close to JR Nagoya station. ||Arriving by Shinkansen, the hotel (and metro systems) can be accessed by underground shopping streets leading to the hotel. This is all-important at this time of year as winter starts - outside it’s 2 degrees Celsius at night. ||This hotel is relatively new, well-located and the staff exceed themselves in offering service excellence. ||The hotel is located on the 18th to 25th floors of an office tower, with the glamorous lobby on the 18th floor. Accordingly each room takes in sweeping views of Nagoya’s skyline. I was fortunate to stay in one of the larger corner suites, which offered 180 degree full glass wall views of the city. Please see the pictures. ||As evidence of good service: ||- I arrived early by Shinkansen and the afternoon staff were able to keep my luggage in concierge, as well as doing a pre-check-in, taking my passport details in advance and ensuring that my suite was readied, while I went out for lunch. ||- The breakfast at Mitsui Garden hotels in Japan are normally excellent value and the menu highlights regional specialities. There is no exception at this hotel, with the staff at “The Living Room”, the hotel’s signature restaurant, providing a wonderful guest experience, a short order breakfast menu plus buffet; and attention to detail. ||- There was a problem with a piece of the furniture in the room, (a drawer that malfunctioned), and this was rectified by the housekeeping crew within the day, together with an apologetic letter from staff member Ikebe-san! ||One cannot ask for more from a hotel, than comfortable suites, good food and drink, service excellence and attention to guest requests. Accordingly, this hotel comes highly recommended if you are...
