I used the Itsu demo asa gohan kokusaitouri mouninguresutoran in the early afternoon after a short business trip. Even if the business trip has been a little bit tiring, as we drive to the aeroport my coworker wants to get lunch. When we walk by it on the street, my coworker asks whether we should use this store. As for me, I have not eaten breakfast yet, so it seems like this restaurant is the perfect opportunity.
Walk up the stairs. You can look down into a souvenir store, but actually, I am more interested in the breakfast. At the top of the stairs, is it a model of a stone ishiganto? It is painted, but I would be more impressed if it is a real stone. Please be serious when designing the store entrance. It is easy to doubt that the ishiganto will have any ability to protect the restaurant if it is not made out of stone.
When I walk in the store, the dark wooden interior has a calming feeling. Then I see the ticket machine. Immediately I begin to feel seasick. Press the buttons. Is this the whole menu? Look over your shoulder. Is another customer waiting for me to order? I order the okinawa soba set as quickly as I can. Am I sweating? Even in Okinawa, in the winter I should not feel this hot. I move quickly to the table to sit down, overcome with a sense of unease. I want to order at the table with the salesperson.
The room has a calm atmosphere. From my seat at the table, I can see a false window, with a monochrome photo of a traditional Okinawan house. Even if it is meant to give the feeling of being in a traditional house, just like the ishiganto at the door, I would prefer the truth. Please make it a window that I can see through.
For those who start their day with tea, the store has unlimited refills of four types of tea: Okinawan green tea, jasmine tea, butterfly pea flower tea, and hibiscus tea. Even though I normally prefer jasmine tea, this is Okinawan breakfast, so I choose Okinawan green tea.
The meal comes quickly. Okinawan mixed rice is delicious, and is an excellent breakfast food. The rice has a firm feeling in the mouth. Three small plates: Miso, mozuku, and tsukemono. I normally do not enjoy miso, but I eat it on the rice. It is a rich miso, and I wish I did not put it on the rice, but it is recommended for miso lovers. Mozuku is delicious and reminds me of the sea.
This is my first time to eat Okinawa soba, so I do not know if this is a good place for an introduction. Two pieces of kamaboko have a gentle flavour and smooth texture. Sanmai niku has a mild color, a lot lighter than what I have seen in pictures of Okinawa soba. The fat is smooth and easy to eat, and the meat has a good chew and mild flavour. Noodles are thick with a good feel on the teeth. The soup is very light, with a light bonito taste. Even if it is the winter time, by the time I am finished I am warm from the inside.
We finish our breakfast quickly and leave. Overall, I think this is a restaurant that can be recommended for those who want to eat a traditional breakfast at any time of day, so it may be recommended for workers who work unusual hours. Also, it is recommended for those who want a quick breakfast on their way to the aeroport. While the atmosphere does not quite seem genuine with the ishiganto, I would consider coming again.
Thank you...
Read moreI had a very very delicious, peaceful and comforting experience here. The service was impeccable, as she was nearby to help me if I needed help with the ordering machine, and when the food arrived, she kindly described the food - in English - and explained the possible condiments nearby. My coffee was strong and flavourful. They have wifi here for free, and after I ate, I stayed over an hour reading, and they made me feel so welcome, like I could have stayed four more hours without any complaint. Breakfast is served here ALL DAY, so it was perfect for me to sleep in today and have a late leisurely breakfast. They also have a wide variety of local Okinawan ice teas. I sat at the bar near a very Elderly and Beautiful Okinawan woman, and she told me herself how good the food was, and it was obvious that she was having her best life breakfast, just like me. The flavours! I wish I had come here sooner on my trip, as the vibe is so relaxing that I would have been...
Read moreSo. Delicious. I had the Okinawan tofu set here for breakfast and it was sooo good. I actually went to another restaurant where I paid more $$ for a tofu set but the tofu soup here was better. Everything was so good. Unlimited iced tea refills. The miso rice was yummy along with the seaweed.
Yes, it's located in the touristy main street, but there's some really good quality food to be found here. I wish I got to stop by here one more time! Okinawan food is so...
