I only got an hour and a half layover time in my hand in Narita before my connection flight to Thailand, plus my flight gate is the complete opposite direction from Ippudo. But I even skipped one airplane's meal for hours before landing just for this. So all the trouble I went through can't go to waste!
Luckily the line wasn't as bad, less than 10 minutes. I ordered Akamaru special toppings which is the most popular one. You also get to choose the firmness of noodles, I personally like it chewier much better than soft.
I had Ippudo from New York in the past and it was above average-delicious while Ippudo here in Narita clearly way better! The broth is deep, porky, creamy, strong yet light at the same time. Umami miso paste and fragrant black garlic oil also add a nice touch to an already delicious soup.
Chewy thin noodles goes well with thick broth as expected. Their roasted pork chashu were sliced almost too thin but super tender and flavorful. Semi-boiled egg, tasty while beansprouts and chopped green onions are my favorite toppings in ramen.
Japanese ramen chefs can make the highest tier of magical ramen soup, no wonder ramen shops in Japan will continue to stay on top of the world above any other countries. So if you crave for some serious ramen when you come by Narita for your connection flight. I highly recommend you to try Ippudo! It's worth going through a long line plus long distance walk through busy crowd.
One last thing, if you love beer plus enough layover time try some of their flavored Japanese draft beer! I chose Kyoho Grape beer which was extraordinarily interesting, a strong grape flavor combined with tasty beer. On the way back of my trip, I definitely will come back for Matcha greentea beer.
Because of this marvelous spot and other cool looking new restaurants opened like Mitsumoto Tei. Narita is now officially my all-time...
Read moreI got the mild ramen with egg. On the menu the columns go from mild, medium, to spicy. It was the most affordable place to dine in, in my opinion in the airport. And the food quality for the price was spectacular. Perfect for a long wait at the airport. Although the dining area was a little tight in my opinion, that didn't sway me away from sitting down and eating a nice warm bowl of their ramen. Would recommend and would come again.
Just an FYI if you pay with card it'll ask you if you want to pay with yen or U.S dollar. Select Japanese yen. The conversion was almost a dollar more expensive in U.S dollar. You'll thank me later!
If you are a vegetarian they only have pork broth. I asked if they have miso and...
Read moreIppudo is one of the famous ramen shops in Japan, if you transfer in Narita Airport, this is another must-try spot. Had No. 7 Bari Mori Akamaru with a rich tonkotsu broth and 2 types of pork chashu (melt-in-your-mouth pork belly and slow-cooked pork loin). It was one of the best ramen I’ve tried. There was a big line when I arrived but the staffs were very efficient and polite. You go straight to order the food, pay and then the staffs will help you find the table. Food came out super quick and fresh. They do dine-in only and they do not accept USD. And if you use credit card they only take JPY. Definitely will be back when I visit...
