I’m a vegetarian and visited this restaurant with a friend. I had prepared a translated note to explain my dietary request. When I handed it to the chef, he read it out loud and started speaking about it with other customers in Japanese (a language I don’t understand). It was clear that the conversation was about me and my food choices, and it felt humiliating and deeply embarrassing.
Only one kind customer sitting next to me tried to help by explaining what I could eat, and I truly appreciated her support. In the end, I was served two maki rolls and one tamago nigiri, which were tasty, but the experience was extremely uncomfortable. The total cost was 2,500 yen.
