I recently visited Eggs 'n Things in Osaka, and unfortunately, it was a very disappointing experience. While the prices are on the higher side, I was excited to try the food. I ordered the complete French toast, my wife had a poke bowl, and we shared the filled potatoes. We also ordered Kona coffee, hot for me and iced for her.
The potatoes and poke bowl were brought out about 5 minutes after ordering, but the potatoes were already lukewarm. It took nearly 10 more minutes for my French toast to arrive, and I was immediately disappointed by its appearance. The portions were minimal, and the quality of the ingredients was very low. The poke bowl tasted bland, and we could tell the sesame oil was old. We had to add salt to the poke bowl to make it palatable. The French toast was just okay, but for the ¥1500 it cost, I could have enjoyed two massive bowls of ramen elsewhere and been full with just one.
The coffees took another 5 minutes to arrive, and my "hot" coffee was lukewarm, although it was tasty. Despite the place not being busy, the staff seemed indifferent, more focused on saying "mahalo" to customers than providing good service.
In the end, the bill was over ¥5000, and we had to fill up with onigiris from a kombini afterward. Overall, it was a very disappointing experience, and I wouldn't...
Read moreIn the 70’s Honolulu had a favorite all day & late night breakfast place called ‘Eggs ‘n Things.’ Through the years Eggs ‘n things moved locations and then expanded to Waikiki, Ko’olani and today we find it in Osaka, behind our hotel. What a perfect last meal in Japan, before returning home to the Islands. One ding for the cashier who refused to take my change, insisting on bills only! Mahalo sir, I’ll now be stuck with Japanese change, as we are unable to convert yen coins to U.S. dollars. Btw- ‘a’ cup of Kona blend coffee does not come with a free refill. The local moco was acceptable. Sadly the yoke was well done rather than easy. Missed out on the yoke blending eith the gravy & hamburger. Shucks! My Wife’s Eggs Benedict was delicious with thick cut bacon that seemed more like ham, as in Japan they’ll never cook crispy bacon. Our shared pancake was to die for! No, seriously, eat this way ‘every day’ and you’ll croak, toes to the sky! But once and awhile brings a smile… our tropical smoothy was delicious, but too smooth, but too smooth & runny. Thicken it up & you’ll have something! Over all, our breakfast was wonderful. With some quality control guidance and a cashier adjustment, this will become an Osaka Favorite! Just needs a little work. マハロ・ヌイ・ロア Mahalo Nui Loa Thank...
Read moreSo happy to find a North American style breakfast spot in Japan! We have been to Eggs n Things in Honolulu and were excited to try this Japanese location. The menu seems simplified but a good variety including Eggs Benedict, Omletes, Pancakes, waffles and more. Service was quick and friendly with a short wait to get a table at 11:30 on a Sunday morning. The restaurant is beautiful and appears to be new. It is hidden on the 2nd floor of a business tower but Google got us here no problem. We both had eggs benedict... the bacon on the ono was crazy thick but on the spinach and bacon benie, the bacon was hard to find. The flavours we're great and the portions decent. Prices are a bit on the high side for Japan but in line with what you would pay in America for slightly larger portions. We felt this location is a bit too refined compared to the Honolulu location but this is because it is a new location in a new building. Hawaiian music and bright coloured Hawaiian shirts as well as the lovely decor made for a great experience. The Kona coffee was delicious too!! We will be back and will recommend to friends who want an American style breakfast...
