Bia Hơi — Restaurant in Osaka

If you aren't Vietnamese, don't even think to try to visit this restaurant. The food wasn't bad but their service was another level of worst. They discriminated against someone who wasn't Vietnamese. My Vietnamese friends brought me there because the food was great they said. We were rejected because we came in at 4:45, the time between lunch and dinner but they haven't changed the tag 'open' to 'close'. Everyone with sanity would think that was okay to dine in. So we went inside and had a seat until the waiter said in Vietnamese that I didn't have an idea what they were talking about. We needed to show our resident card then the waiter said in such a manner that i (not Vietnamese where everyone sat there was Vietnamese) couldn't request for the buffet because I'm not Vietnamese. It was okay i didn't even care about the quantity of the food but the way she told us was really uneducated. We ate in silence and were intimidated by the waiters because they checked every minute whether we had finished eating or not. Disgusting act of service in the F&B industry! I paid for the normal price but my Vietnamese friends got the discount because they're Vietnamese. If you'd like to open the businesses just for your people you could print for huge advertisements written "VIETNAMESE ONLY" no need to disrespect consumers because they aren't...

It was at the basement of a building. I got there at 20:30 on a weekday so there was no queue. The interior was comfortable and relaxing. Flavours were OK but portions were quiet small. I ordered a pho with assorted meat, some fried tofu and a drink for ¥2,348. The meat in the pho was rather chewy and there wasn’t much noodles. The soup was tasty and ‘lemongrassy’ but nothing remarkable. Regarding the tofu dish - there were two on the menu: one was with toppings and the other was with sauce on side. Their names were quiet the same so I pointed at that very photo when ordering the latter but they still managed to serve the other. I spoke to a staff and asked for the one that I ordered. A lively place with energetic and attentive staff, I was surprised to have a table quickly even without a reservation and appearing there just by myself. The menu is available in English with pictures but the menu just lists the dish names and price without much description of food. I was badly craving for Pho soup and spring rolls that night so I only ordered these two items together with pineapple/“pine” juice and crispy banana fritters for dessert. All four items amounted to a little over ¥3,000 because of the 10% service charge, as explained on each page of the menu. A little pricey for simple fare for just one person.
