Ichiran Abeno — Restaurant in Osaka

big thanks to Ryuichi for coming with me to taste this well known ramen shop in japan (also popular in hong kong where i know price much higher than japan's)

It is walking distance from Abeno Station (阿倍野駅, Abeno-eki) a metro station on the Tanimachi Line of the Osaka Metro (one station before tennoji 天王寺) but i could not find it myself, just one day before coming with Ryuichi!

Seats almost full, many tourists, also locals, It differentiate itself from other ordinary ramen shops in that each customer has a separately partitioned booth inside the shop. With the partition, the customer is supposed to focus himself or herself easier on eating the ramen, (and not looking around, or distracted by other customers) and hence could taste better and enjoy! also customer could order tailored made ramen if he’d like to, by choosing the ramen soup’s richness and noodle firmness.

Although i have travelled all the four large islands of Japan, and been in hong kong long time, i have never been to Ichiran before this trip as i am not used to queuing up long time for food. Love the ramen here, highly recommended by friend and seconded! Shop is underground, there was a short queue - we waited for like 10min I think but it was okay. So we chose our ramen and paid using vending machine. I picked the basic ramen which costs 980 yen.

We were then passed a form to choose the richness, spiciness, noodle, garlic and type of onion. Chose max richness and spiciness level of 4.

We then waited for a while before the waitress show us to our seats, so lucky we get to sit in the same row. The table is very special, each of us sit in a cubicle which felt like we are taking an exam - check out the pictures!

The person that served us won't be able to look at us and vice versa as the table is covered from the kitchen. We can also add on orders from the table or communicate with them using calling card instead of talking to them. How special is that?!

There is also free refill of cold water where the pump is connected to table.

The ramen is super delicious! Lvl 4 spiciness is just nice for me but the soup is a lil salty and too oily, probably because I chose max richness. Will definitely try Ichiran Ramen again the next time I...

I haven't even been in Japan for 24 hours but I've already had the best ramen of my life. The broth was extra rich and delicious. Optional chilli sauce to make it give an extra kick. Lots of toppings to chose from, I got eggs and extra meat. If you are still hungry, you have the option of adding another full of half servings of noodles. Ordering might seem daunting, but it is very simple. Load money onto the machine, select your dishes, sides/beverages and you get your change after your done selecting.
