Hidden gem in Osaka with fine dining quality meals at wallet-friendly prices

Go past the inconspicuous sign down a flight of steps from street level and you'll find yourself in a cosy, rustic restaurant that transports you back in time. Lunch sets starts from only 900 yen, comprising of a main, soup, salad and a choice of either rice or bread.

The friendly elderly owner clearly takes pride in his cooking, with fresh ingredients presented in an elegant manner. The juicy, melt-in-your-mouth pork was cooked to perfection, topped with a sprinkling of crunchy onions and paired with tangy balsamic sauce, chunky vegetables and silky mashed potatoes. Every mouthful was a textural delight. The soup was light yet creamy with a hint of sweetness from ube (purple sweet potatoes) - a great accompaniment to the fresh bread! Drizzled with a light savoury dressing, the salad rounded off the meal with a zesty, crunchy touch. You can also help yourself to complimentary infused water.

This place is so amazing I almost want to gate keep it. The restaurant has about 16-18 seats and is single-handedly run by one older gentleman, so please be patient and kind! Regardless of price, the food is amazing, offering delightful French/Italian styled cuisine... and an amazing hamburg during lunchtime!

In the span of a few days, I have already visited 4 times and plan on trying everything on the menu. The lunch sets are delicious, but the steak during the dinner seating was sublime. Typically, I would never give a 5 because I have never found a perfect restaurant, but I absolutely adore this place. The food brings great flavour and joy, the waiting time is reasonable considering it's run by one person, the price makes me able to come multiple times, and the atmosphere is simply wonderful.

きょうは令和5年2月11日 建国記念の日だ

この日にふさわしいものを食べたいとおもって お昼ごはんを食べに行ってきた

行ったお店はここだ

■Le 日本食堂

日本食堂というのは懐かしい響きだ 若い人はほとんど知らないと思うが JRがまだ国鉄と呼ばれていた時代 新幹線や特急の食堂車をやっていた会社だ

が、きょう行ったお店はそれとは関係ない

日本食堂という名前なので 和食のお店かと思ったが どうやらちがうみたいだ

そういえば、国鉄の日本食堂も ハイカラな洋食が多かったような記憶がある

ランチには何種類かあったが どれも洋食っぽいメニューだ きょう、お願いしたのはこれ

・スペイン産ポーク　グリル　900円

スペイン産ポークといえばイベリコ豚を連想するが このお値段なら、たぶんちがうだろう

どーんとおおきなポークのグリル それにポタージュとサラダ ポークのグリルはかなり分厚い

そして、パンではなくごはんを選べるのがめっちゃ嬉しい！

まずはポタージュをいただく うんうん、美味しいよ

しっかりとつくられたコーンポタージュ

そして、ポークのグリルをカットして いただきまーっす

旨い！ ものすごく上手にグリルしてあって とても柔らかくて美味しい

低めの温度でじっくりと火入れをしてあるようで とても食感がよい まさい好みの焼き具合だ

ソースもとても美味しい こんなに旨いポークのグリルは久しぶりだ

ゆっくりとスペイン豚を味わいながら のんびりといただいた

さいごにコーヒーを飲みたいなと思って もういちどメニューをみると

・食後のデミタスコーヒー　100円

おお、安いやんか

やすかろう・・・かと思ったが しっかりと抽出されたとても美味しいコーヒーだった これが100円というのは嬉しい！

建国記念の日なので和食を食べるつもりだったが 日本食堂でいただいたスペイン産の豚さん とても満足だったよ

夜はビストロ的なお料理を出してるらしい こんなに旨いポークを出してくれるなら 夜のお料理もとても期待できる

お勘定をするときに

なんで日本食堂なんですか？

と聞くつもりだったが、聞き忘れてしまった つぎは夜に旨いビストロ料理を食べにいって そのときに聞くことにしよう
