You like cozy? You like soup? You like Japanese curry? Well lemme tell you 'bout this lil gem 💎 known as Japanese soup curry. Nestled in a small residential area, this hole in the wall restaurant epitomizes the word cozy. Staff are lovely. It's like coming over to a friend's place and them making you the best dishes you can imagine First soup curry I ever had and now I think it's a case of "chasing the dragon" (google this term and you'll know what I mean). 10/10 would literally sleep on uncomfortable airport benches, have ok airline food on a cramped economy plane (yes I'm a common peasant too) and flying through turbulent weather, all the way back to hokaido, just for these dishes and for the two lovely staff. I'm so happy Bonanza is still around! I visited in 2017 when they first opened. We had stayed at an AirBnb nearby and were able to try their soup curry the day before we left Sapporo - at that point the restaurant had barely been open a week. I particularly miss their curry broth on cold days, and have not have a better soup curry since.

The broth was rich and soothing, with a pleasant herbal taste. The fried vegetables were a great match with the soup. I can't even remember which particular protein I had, but I can only remember the feeling of comfort and satisfaction from that piping hot bowl of soup curry.

Our first curry soup experience in Sapporo. It was delightful. At first the concept of a curry soup seemed strange but the more you eat it, the more it works and is delicious. It was empty when we went before 8pm on a Thursday but we reckon it gets crowded during lunch hour.

There wasn’t an English menu however it is quite simple to order: Step 1 - choose your meat / veg only, Step 2 - how big a rice portion you’d like Step 3 - choose the spice level Step 4 (optional) - add on side dishes
