Cologne Annex — Restaurant in Sapporo

I was extremely pleased with my experience here today. The staff were all very friendly and accommodating from the moment we inquired at the door till the moment we left the building as they bowed deeply in gratitude. Japan is known for their service and excellence in standard, but the staff here truly took it to the next level. I was better served here than even some Michelin restaurants elsewhere in Japan. Special compliments to Chef Nobu-san, who, despite his limited English, did his utmost to communicate and entertain us. The staff also continued to provide us with complementary photo and frame, and a complimentary drink to sweeten our counter-side course dinner meal.

The food was also very unique, utilising many local Hokkaido ingredients, such as the vegetables and even local white Hokkaido wasabi. The beef, despite us choosing A4 instead of A5, was truly melt-in-your-mouth and full of beefy goodness. One could imagine how much better A5 could be!

Despite us finishing rather late at around 11.20pm, nobody rushed us to finish our meal and made us feel comfortable at home. When we left, all the remaining staff came out and bowed deeply to greet us goodbye. I’ve never had a more appreciative service, especially when I least expected it. If I could give more than five stars, I would. Our group of three arrived without a booking at 9:00pm on a Sunday night and they showed us right to our grill table. We watched the chef cook our set menu in front of us. All the staff were kind, humorous, attentive, and knowledgeable. As far as the food goes, it was delicious—they also cater for gluten free. We selected a set menu with steak and chicken steak, and it was all cooked to perfection. Staff also add a bit of fire to flare the teppanyaki experience. Prices for set menus are reasonable for the quality. Upon arrival, the staff asked for our country of origin, and then proceeded to take a photo of us with Wagyu from our country. We received the photo in a frame throughout the course of our dinner. No words can explain how kind the staff truly are. It is a dining experience I will never forget, and one I recommend to anyone...

Abysmal service which includes LYING and heavily pressuring their customers, below details my horrible experience here, specifically with the staff that manages the orders.

Upon arriving at the restaurant, said staff’s horrible attitude was shown, continuously checking his watch while we browsed the menu, obviously insinuating that we were “slow”.

Worst of all, the LYING. My mother could not eat beef, and yet he pressured her to order a beef set, insisting there was no alternative. It was not until I was visibly upset did he pull out a fish menu from the back. Obviously, he wanted her to order the beef as it was much more expensive than the fish.
