Matsuo Beer & Restaurant — Restaurant in Sapporo

Missed the last call for dinner at the ryokan and had to browse the area for dinner.

It's located on the main road directly cutting through Jozankei. The exterior menu showed that they had AYCE Ghengis BBQ, so I popped in to try it out.

December is definitely a slow season for Jozankei, as it was empty inside. There won't be any English support here, whether it's from ma & pa running the shop or from the menu.

Tried to order the AYCE option, but the ma tried to explain to me that it wasn't available as it was for two person or more parties. A bit disappointed, but I ordered a single serving for Ghengis BBQ. It came out and I realized that this was more so a drinking bar than it is a dinner spot. Serving size was not enough for one average adult male, and I think it's intentional as you're supposed to order several dishes and drink with a second party.

Overall, not a terrible choice, but also not a particularly standout spot either. Seems to be more of a stop if you're on a road trip with a friend and really want AYCE...

They do not offer ACYE Genghis khan (anymore?), as earlier reviews have mentioned. The meals have really small portions. Not enough food, definitely not enough meat. But their sizing of beer is good if you want to drink. "Snack bar" seems appropriate in retrospect. Not a great place, but there aren't many options in Jozankei, so it may be your one of your only options,...

Came here for lunch at Jozankei.

Place is nice and staff welcoming. We ordered the lamb BBQ set and a bowl of udon.

However the lamb is just average. Nothing fantastic....
