Jozankei View Hotel: A Return to Relaxation and Delight Having recently returned from another stay at the Jozankei View Hotel, I couldn't resist sharing my positive experience once again. This wasn't my first visit, and it certainly reaffirmed my love for this incredible resort. Highlights:Indulgent Buffet Dinners: The star of the show remains the phenomenal buffet dinners. The variety and quality of dishes, spanning Japanese, Western, and even Chinese cuisines, is truly impressive. It's a feast for the senses and the stomach, leaving you fully satisfied and wanting more.Water Paradise: The Water Kingdom Lagoon is a haven for water lovers of all ages. The massive indoor space features various slides, pools, and attractions, providing endless fun and entertainment.Soothing Hot Springs: What's a trip to Jozankei without the hot springs? The hotel boasts vast indoor and outdoor baths, each with its unique charm and atmosphere. Immersing myself in the steaming waters, surrounded by breathtaking mountain views, was pure bliss.Delicious Breakfast Spreads: Breakfasts were just as impressive as the dinners, offering a diverse selection of Japanese and Western dishes to fuel your day's adventures.Japanese Charm: I particularly enjoyed the lovely Japanese-style room. The traditional tatami mats, futon bedding, and overall ambiance instantly transported me to another world, enhancing the authentic Japanese experience. From the delightful buffet meals and incredible water park to the relaxing hot springs and charming Japanese-style rooms, every aspect contributed to a memorable and rejuvenating stay. Read moreI had an atrocious experience at the Jozankei View Hotel, and I would strongly discourage anyone from staying here. From the moment I arrived, things were off to a horrendous start. The service at the counter was terrible; I wasn't informed in advance that the sauna would be unavailable in the evening. It was only upon check-in that I was told it wasn't available. The lady at the front desk was rude and unhelpful, which made the situation even worse. Fortunately, a gentleman took over and explained to me, in a reasonable manner, that the sauna was unavailable today because they swap male and female access times. His clear explanation and better approach are the only reasons I'm giving this review two stars instead of one.
Unfortunately, everything else about my stay was outrageous. The customer service while queuing for breakfast in the morning was appalling. The woman managing the line was rude and authoritarian, which was incredibly disrespectful, maybe they are accustomed to ushering in many large tourist groups. The dinner breakfast buffet itself was terrible—the poorest quality I’ve ever experienced. The food was simply garbage.
The tattoo policy in the onsen and lagoon pool area was another shock. It's 2024, and the fact that they still do not allow tattoos in these areas is ridiculous, particularly for a hotel that caters mainly to tourists. I wasn’t even able to enjoy playing with my daughter in the lagoon pool without constantly worrying about being kicked out. I understand onsen policies, but banning tattoos in a pool meant for families to play in is beyond a joke.
Overall, this stay completely spoiled my wife's birthday. In hindsight, I would have gladly paid double to stay at a nearby hotel with decent service. If you're considering Jozankei View Hotel, my advice is to look elsewhere....
Read moreWent there for 3 days 2 nights trip after 14 years when I first visited. There are probably a new block built (or I just didn't notice from my first visit). This time I get western style room which I don't prefer. Try to get Japanese style room they are much nicer trust me. My leg hit the bed frame multiple times.. The food was absolutely terrible for me consider I have just stayed in another similar priced onsen resort just 3 days ago. Some of the food are not fresh and there aren't a lot selection, mostly fried food like nuggets, fries, fried chicken. (Mostly cheap food was given and the rate of the hotel wasnt cheap) They provide seafood don with salmon roe, little shrimp, diced salmon etc. The food are plain terrible. And all the dishes for both day breakfast & dinner was exactly the same. The onsen was ok. There are 3 area for onsen. 2 of them get switched daily between male and female.. 1 of the onsen are really so so.. the other was better considering the outdoor onsen was bigger. The rooftop onsen was great but the usage timing was really short and is shared between men and women. And men gets around 3 hours during dinner hour. Front desk staff was was great but the restaurant staff werent very helpful and friendly. You gotta get your own table and they didnt do good crowd control (such as: allocating different dinner time for their guest) all from 6pm-8pm. The first night we had to queue half way across the hotel ( the restaurant is on 1 end of the resort and the lobby on the other end). Location wise it's not very far from any Sightseeing point. But the view was great. Please don't forget to prepare 150yen/pax/night as bath tax when check out...
