Was wondering if this crowded store could live up to its high expectations and long queues. Turned out to be my favourite out of the 3 restaurants I had visited in Nijo market!
There might be a long queue but there is a very efficient numbered ticket system so you can get a ticket first and go walk around before your number is called.
The sashimi here is incredibly fresh (as expected out of all nijo market restaurants) but what I like is the portion size of each kaisen don. There is also a good variety of different side dishes you can get that also exceed expectations. We got a Hokkaido specialty - buttered potatoes, and loved how fluffy and creamy they were. We also got zangi fried squid and had to reorder it because the dish was so delicious!
Just note that you have to get at least one dish per person -- the table next to us got scolded by the boss because their huge uni platter came first. The boss thought they were only going to eat that, but the rest of their food came later and they really ordered a...

When he skipped my number (the next two numbers he called had the same number of people) I asked him what happened and whether I should get another number or just wait. He said it wasnโt his problem, clearly unhappy to be questioned. I was surprised by the rude response and thought I must have heard wrong so I asked him again. Then he said โno Englishโ which was clearly not true and walked away and closed the door in front of me.
Do yourself a favor and go to the original location around the corner. Even though thereโs more people waiting, it is 2-3X larger so the wait is shorter and the ladies letting in people are friendly and understand the meaning of...
