Fisherman's Wharf of Shirahama — Restaurant in Shirahama

Walked past here during slow season and there wasn’t many people here. It was raining so the terrace seafood bbq wasn’t available. We ordered abalone sashimi (1000JPY), some mollusk? (500JPY), and a live jumping squid (1300JPY). The fish sashimi that are available weren’t all from here and we didn’t feel like eating a whole live fish so we skipped that. Lobster is available for around 1100JPY/100 grams. That’s like $50USD a pound? The lobsters here are different than the ones from Maine. They are smaller and chewier and they don’t have the big claws I think. There’s something else that is similar to a lobster but even more high end at 15000JPY/kg. It looks like a cross between a lobster and a crab. Our sashimi was great! They cut it up and you eat it with soy sauce. The live squid was cool, the fisherman grabbed it out of the tank as it squirted water everywhere. It was so fresh and different from previously frozen squid. Would recommend if you like...

A great place to grab breakfast and lunch. We had breakfast at a little place there and it was decent for only 500yen a plate that included an egg, toast, salad, potatoes and a drink. The sandwich option was even better. On the second floor is an Italian restaurant and it was an excellent lunch. The beef set was only 1500yen and I got a side of rice with it for only 200yen. This closes early (in Autumn, don't know about other seasons). So come here for lunch or an early dinner. Super fresh and really good portion. The staff are really friendly and signs have English and Japanese. A lot less busier than Tore Tore, so you can easily find a seat and isn't crowded at all, and the fish is equally as good.
