When in Takayama, I walked around the town a lot. I was so hungry one day, and I opened my Google Maps. I found one shop called Fukutaro 福太郎 that would be opened in another 10 minutes.
I waited outside. It was a sizzler of a day, and all I could think of was food 🫣😂
I ordered three different dango and one 梅酒 (plum wine) with soda. It was 9 AM. I asked the owner if the plum wine was strong. He said, "まあまあ," just okay. I loved the flavour of the plum with dango 💕
There was one dango called Gohei Mochi that I haven't tried: あぶらぇ五干餅 (Gohei Mochi). I walked up to the counter to order an extra dango.
The unique thing about Gohei Mochi is that it is smothered with sweet miso paste after being grilled. It was so good and the best Gohei Mochi that I tried. I tried a lot when I was in Takayama 🤣

For those savoury people would love the dangos as it is pasted with a salty glaze while those that prefer a sweeter tooth, would love the aburae gohei mochi. Personally, i’d would get the dango with a sweet drink next time. Love the aburae gohei mochi. The umesyu has a sweet smell and taste, with a light taste of the alcohol.

Ordered takeout for the Dango and Mochi. Had only 10 mins left to spare before the bus departed, so it was quite a unique experience watching the Obasan grill the Dango patiently, while I was sweating buckets that her meticulousness might make me miss the bus. Lol.
