We were welcomed with some great cold beer and a plate of some snacks! This bar has lots to offer!! Homemade vegetarian food (and some traditional Japanese meat options too) you can get the best selection of Belgium beers and some knee-slapping good Japanese craft beer. (West coast IPA was amazing). The bar is all you could ask for as a traveller, we were looked after and given great advise on where to travel further. We had a great experience here. The owner/server/cook/bartender was very nice and friendly. We ordered Moscow mule, homemade plum wine and Takoyaki. The plum wine and Takoyaki was very good. The couple sat next to us kept ordering more food so I think other food items must be good too. Moscow mule is just okay because it lacks the refreshing feeling you usually get from Moscow mule. Takayama is not well served by bars that will serve you a beer like a traditional pub. Particularly before 7pm.

And after a hard day of walking the streets and trails of this pretty town, you’ll be gagging for a draft beer. With nowhere to go. Until you find Bar Thumbs Up!

The host speaks some English, he’s engaging and he serves a range of beers specialising in Japanese craft beer on tap. It’s an oasis in an otherwise desert. There are cocktails and food but I didn’t try them.
