My first time at Takayama and I want something special for dinner beside sukiyaki and grill. Then from the google map I think curry is nice, then i walk there, before i double check my way is correct or no... Oh no just a few houses before the store I can smell the aroma of the curry... I feel so hungry! Haha Luckily I got the seat else.. need to wait haha. The menu is all in English so.... Google translate! But I have in mind is tonkatsu curry, so order that with no hesitate! The taste is so special, different from Coco Ichiban! This one is more on their signature dish! Try and know it! A special thing here, we eat with a big fork instead of a spoon. Something unique! I think they want us to experience their original flavour, which that's why no condiments on the table, when i request chili powder, then the lady said "sorry, no." It will be great 'if you know your customer', ask them the level of spiciness so it will be well done prepared by the chef, won't it be cool? Haha.... The Chef is a nice friendly guy! He cooked in front of me. I think he know what he is doing which he is dedicated and love on cooking. Nice curry! The service is good, but it will be better if you have an English special menu. Additional thing for note, They were afraid I will order other than curry then upon I enter they told me only curry rice with protein option, ok? With limited English but it's still understandable. 👌 Yo!! Michelin Guide! Why don't you stop by n give a test 😉

This is the best curry that we've ever had. And we’ve had a lot of curry in our lives, from Japan to India and everywhere in between. We came across this tiny spot in Takayama because we were hungry and it turned out to be a gem. They open for dinner at 5:30pm and we got there just before opening. Good thing too because there's limited seating (two tatami, two with chairs). They only serve curry rice but there's a sign on the door that says “Curry Rice" so don’t go in expecting ramen or anything else. The menu’s entirely in handwritten Japanese and no photos so you know it's not a tourist trap at all. Just use google lens. I ordered the pork cutlet curry and my husband got the green chili curry. The lady warned him it’d be really spicy but he’s fine with spice anw. And we both loved our curries! So flavorful and rich and balanced. They play jazz rock inside and the vibe is just very chill. It’s cash only and they give you only a fork to eat your curry (maybe that's their thing?) but honestly, they could give us chopsticks and we’d still gobble up all that curry. We loved it so much we went back again the next day for lunch. I got the green chili curry with additional pork cutlet toppings this time around. Fantastic curry.

We found this restaurant on a rainy evening in Takayama. Ordered 2 pork cutlets curry, 1 chicken curry for our kid, some side dishes and drinks. Food is good, though we feel their service is not as good as the food. The restaurant owner and their staff seem to have very high ego. A few pointers: 1. They served curry rices with only fork to eat. We asked for spoons to eat the dishes and were rejected. They claimed that spoons are only served to kids and all guests should eat their curry rice with forks. 2. There is no English menu, though the staff can speak basic English when we ordered. 3. Restaurant does not allow food sharing (e.g. 1 curry rice for 1 person, even for kids) and they only sell curry rice. 4. We had a plastic bottle which was finished and wanted them to help throw it away, together with the leftover food/trash but were rejected. While I understand that we bought it from a vending machine, it is a little too much for the restaurant to refuse throwing such a small item for their guests. 5. If you are foreigners, expect to be turned away or wait long time if they are full or on certain days, as it is a small restaurant with limited seats. Overall, while they may have some good curry, I’d not revisit them if I travel to Takayama again.

Probably one of the best meals I’ve had in Japan! If you find yourself in Takayama, do yourself a favour and head to Jakson and you won’t be disappointed. It is a small outfit specialising in Katsu Curry. We queued up a few minutes before the restaurant opened (5:30 PM) and immediately got a table. There is space for individuals by the kitchen, two tables that seat 4 each on the floor for an authentic experience and tables with seats as well. We were informed large groups are turned away due to size so it’s best to arrive in groups of 3-4. The menu is in Japanese but very easy to navigate as the waitress is able to translate to make the process effortless. Service is incredibly fast. There was a mixture of pork and chicken options - beef is available as well. I would recommend the pork with a side order of the pickle if you want an extra kick. The menu was well priced - ¥1200 for curry, ¥260 for rice, ¥200 for coke (~£12-13 overall). Incredible flavours and very filling and generous portions. Food - 5/5 Service - 5/5 Venue - 4/5 (not ideal for groups with 4+)

I made my way to Jakson Curry as soon as they opened! In Japan, I learned that you either go early or go later before they close. However, going later might mean missing out on the specific dish you want 😆 There is no English menu here, but the staff asked me about my preferred protein. I chose a deep-fried pork cutlet with the standard rice portion. I mean, 260g sounds reasonable, right? 😎 She asked, "Are you sure you can finish it?" And I confidently replied, "Yes, definitely!" The girl sitting next to me ordered a smaller portion of rice... But oh well 😆 We'll deal with it when the curry arrives 😆 The crunchy pork cutlet was perfect with the spicy curry. The curry was darker than usual and incredibly tasty! It was a curry like no other I had tried before. A must-try when you're in Takayama. Now that I know the menu, I'll add sausage and egg as toppings next time 😆 Also, the rice portion was generous, but I swallowed my pride and finished the whole thing 😝 📍 Jakson Curry, accepts cash only and provides forks only 😎

An amazing curry at ¥1200. You can choose the spiciness as well as the size of the rice serving when ordering. The curry has a rich taste, different from your usual curry (maybe some chocolate ?). The meat is well cooked and fried, and some salad is also offered. The atmosphere of the restaurant is cosy with music in the background. The place is a bit on the smaller side, with two four seats tatami tables, two four seats tables and some counter seats. The staff is very kind, and even though there's no English menu, they know how to point out the main informations you have to know (what kind of meat, spiciness, serving size, ...). You can even leave some messages or drawings in notebooks left on the table, or simply browse those that are already there !
