Japanese Restaurant Bien — Restaurant in Takayama

We visited on October 1st, the very first day of the soft opening. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, the team highly motivated, and the owner personally welcomed us – a wonderful touch.

Since it was the very first day, naturally some things still needed fine-tuning. We even received a matcha espresso, prepared like a real espresso on the house – unique and absolutely delicious. The restaurant was already busy, and the food was excellent with many creative dishes and a colorful menu full of local specialties. Ordering was simple and convenient via QR code at the table.

At the end, we had a nice chat with the owner and shared a few observations and feedback on small details that might be improved. He was very appreciative and clearly eager to take such feedback into account for the future.

Walking to my hotel after I just finished my meal, and after occasionally dropping by. Place was full but waited as the owner said I could get a table a bit after. Incredible food, at very good qualify-cost. Both host and service were impeccable, and while the place has a very neat, elegant touch, everyone greets you with a kind warmth personal touch that is often not seen in places looking that good. If I every pass by Takayama again, I will for sure get a table here. (Spent a bit more because I ordered 2 dishes and desert, but 2000-3000 yen will likely get you...

I don't write reviews often, but Japanese Restaurant Bien proved to be an exceptional experience. Solid, well throughout dished for the course meal, kind and attentive staff, and buzzing atmosphere. I wouldn't be surprised if Japanese Restaurant Bien was nominated for a Michelin star at some point in the next few years.
