Shinasoba Katsumi — Restaurant in Takayama

I had more sophisticated ramen before but this one is good for its price. Overall, my wife and I both liked it, but I have some feedbacks for improvement. The wonton doesn’t taste as good as one might expect, but it is still interesting. I was not a huge fan of the yuzu because It clashed with the taste of the ramen. Menma wasn’t cut properly, so I had some incredibly long pieces of menma that was harder to eat.

Like some others have mentioned, the customer service wasn’t ideal, but I get the feeling that the person running the shop might have a physical disability or he was too sick to work today when I visited the shop. His speech was slurred and his movement in the kitchen seemed slow and constrained. Regardless of his state of being, I hope the man is doing well, and I hope he can serve his customers more...

After three trips to Japan, I have finally found a place that I will never eaten again. Disappointing and a poor reflection on the locals. Seated less than 3 feet from a smelly toilet. Have experience I’ve never had in Japan before. The food was very average, not like what we have become accustomed to in Japan. Grubby kitchen sink covered in brown grime. Dusty surfaces and not at all neat. Customer service is the poorest I’ve had in the whole country. Another real dealbreaker was the invoice when we paid. 1,000 Yen for one beer that sells everywhere else for about 600 Yen. If it was listed on the menu, I would’ve had no issue paying it but it was a surprise to find it on the bill. Chose one of the other eateries nearby is my suggestion. This is a small ramen restaurant that sits about 8 people at the counter and has 2 other smaller tables that can seat up to 4 people. The ramen here is different from the typical ramen. The broth has an herbal taste to it, which reminds me of bah ku teh in Singapore. The noodles remind me of wanton mee noodles, springy texture, and thin.
