Awesome hidden spot in Iidabashi. We couldn't find it at first because you have to ride an elevator to the second floor of the building. It has a real fun izakaya atmosphere with regulars and groups of friends having fun around good food.
Speaking of the food it was fantastic. A bit pricier than what we're used to but you're paying for quality. They serve you a small dashi soup with a clam in it and some marinated fish with chives as an appetizer. I don't like fish usually but this I thought was very tasty and I ate it all!
We had the tempura (shrimp, mushrooms, eggplant and lotus root) along with the kimchi rolls at first. What I really liked is that they bring you a small dish with salt in it so you can season your food as you like. Something I found in Japan is that the food is very salty, and their tempura was actually not salty at all and I could adjust the salt as needed. Big plus!
Next we got the tofu with ground meat (can't remember the name of the dish). Very savoury and a taste you don't get to experiment often. I haven't had anything like it in Japan so far so I recommend you try it.
The lady who tended to us went out of her way to translate everything she wanted to tell us using Google Translate. We appreciated that very much. She was very attentive to our needs and quickly double checked if the meat with the tofu was beef (I have red meat allergy) even though I said it didn't bother me if I couldn't eat it as it was my boyfriend who ordered it. That was very kind of her.
Then we finished off with the salt grilled chicken wings. They were fatty, meaty and the taste was very delicate but so tasty. Careful when you dig in, they were also piping hot!
Overall a superb experience and we stayed longer there than in other izakayas we visited. We loved the vibe. A hidden gem truly, please go if you visit Tokyo, you...
Read moreThis place is an absolute delight. The family who run Kinsuke offer a wonderfully warm welcome and great food, with husband behind the scenes making super curries, his wife out front manning the grill and a grandma/grandson team serving customers with a smile. Find it on the second floor - try the agedashi eggplant with eel, better than unagi! Beautiful yakitori on a charcoal burner. I'm looking forward to making...
