This is the best Indian restaurant in Tokyo I've been to so far. And I've been to MANY. Their curry is full of flavors. No choose-your-level-of-spiciness nonsense. You can tell that the meat was cooked with the spice from the beginning. (Some places just add spice or meat of your choice into the pre-cooked curry! :( ) Some curry is super spicy, but it's so good that i couldn't stop eating. I've been a customer at A-Raj for about 13 years. The most reliable order for new customer unfamiliar with South Indian food would be the vegetarian meal or dosa. The rice is basmati rice--light and airy, it mixes well with the different flavors of the curries, which change every week. The poori are delicious when filled with potatoes or other starchy food and then dipped in rasam. The dosa and biryani are delicious, and there are often weekly and seasonal specials. I visited this Indian restaurant because it had high ratings, over 4 out of 5 stars. I was planning to order a curry set, but the owner recommended the mackerel pike biryani and tuna curry omelet set, so I went with that. The tuna curry omelet was quite good. However, the mackerel pike in the biryani was mixed in with the rice without being deboned.
